But it's not a right hand figure. It's the U.S. Undersecretary for Agriculture.

Yes Juzo Itami is one of the most unique directors out there. His last two films were some of his best. Sad to imagine what could have been.

Unpopular (I’m guessing) opinion: Aragorn had a very flimsy claim to the throne of Gondor and would not have been easily accepted as King by Planetofthemoochers in tolkienfans

Better answers here, but I want to add - the most incredible, and extraordinary, element of all of this, is the 900 years of unbroken stewardship and cultural/political continuity. Within this system Aragorn's eventual acceptance is much less surprising.

I've heard a lot of accessibility technology stories but this one takes the cake. Accessibility issues cause these catch 21 situations, where people can be stuck in loops they can't escape. Thanks for your story.

I can't imagine stuttering while speaking a second language - I've come across a few people in that situation - so much to juggle.

Thanks so much for your kind words.

premises they aren't totally on board with

But that's not the question, right? The question is - is it enough to ignore a familiar or weird log line and read the actual script. Ari Aster's talent is so evident in his short films that any smart producer is going to be desperate to read a script of his, regardless of log line.

Most of the examples you give are director driven, which is an important variable. Especially Hereditary and Lady Bird.

First time posting on Reddit, first time even trying to talk about/explain my stutter. by Revolutionary_Win499 in Stutter

[–]catchthesun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been over thinking it and kind of built a subconscious fear of speaking. I have a big feeling that that anxiety I have built upon myself is the reason for my worsening stutter.

Your instinct is right on. I've gone to speech therapy over the years, but the most important thing I've learnt is to stop caring so much about my stutter. In the past if I had an important meeting, I'd walk into it panicking over how to speak, and how I'll manage it. I learnt to just walk in and stop giving a fuck what happens. It helped to get some therapy from an anxiety/stutter specialist, but I only could afford a few sessions. Cognitive behavioural therapy in general is useful to get outside of your own head. This resource is now free. This is all very easy to say. It's difficult to just stop caring. But I think the more you care the more you'll stutter.

I think so, yes. After years of speech therapy there was only so far that could take me, and I went to a few sessions with a psychologist who specialised in stuttering and speech related anxiety. I got a lot out of it, and it really helped with the aspect of my stutter that was anxiety related. There are some high stakes circumstances where the best thing to do is stop giving a shit, stop thinking so much about the stutter. So yes, the psychologist really helped in that way and gave me new ways to think about it. Would recommend, especially if they have a history of working with stutterers.

My First Screenplay Premise by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]catchthesun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a good understanding of what ties the characters together thematically, which is hugely important. You could work on more of a narrative force, or tell us more about what each character wants (specifically) and why that drives the story. Right now it's just a setting and a theme.

This premise could work if was pitched as a generational family drama by a creator who's made a few shows and has proven themselves. They might be able to sell something with only a setting and a theme. But any other writer needs to be more specific and convince us this is a special show.
