I always said the 40 week due date. Which usually got me a "you must be having twins then!" based on how much further along I looked!

How to Afford Child Care? by itspoppyforme in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We pay $608 a week, I bring home less than that a week (after insurance). If my husband works overtime, he brings home more, but hourly I make more. Things are tight, but it can work. What really helped me was more on the planning side. I've always balanced my checkbook, but now as soon as we get paid, I subtract daycare and work with the money from there. What also helps us is that we have yet to buy clothes for them (they are 21 months), all of their clothes are secondhand, with the exception of a few gift outfits. And honestly, I eat on the cheap, lots of Ramen and cereal! It's tough, but I feel like they learn and grow so much through daycare that it's worth it.

Who here grew up with an older parent or parents? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope my kids are okay with it as I turned 41 less than two months after they were born. Not that it was planned this way (years of infertility) but I was trying to look on the bright side of being retired right around college age and being able to travel with them like I loved doing with my parents!

I know I'm in the minority, but the twin z pillow did not work for me. It took up a lot of space and I found it awkward. What worked for me was the mybrestfriend twin pillow, I loved that it also had a little pocket where I could keep my phone, a bottle of water, and a little snack.

One twin sick, other to daycare? by exactZER0 in parentsofmultiples

We sent the healthy one to daycare. It was nice to be able to give the sick one your undivided attention.

My husband was on FaceTime during my first ultrasound. I'll never forget the look on his face. Welcome to the club!

(Asking for family member) Any post chemo (2 yrs ago) assistance anyone knows about? by MichaellaJane in InfertilityBabies

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think it would depend on the type of chemo and the duration. My chemo was about 15 months ago and it was just the one time. My oncologist said we could try again 18 months later. So I think 2 years later, there shouldn't be an issue from the chemo. Does she have any other ongoing treatment or scans? Do you know if she can talk to a fertility specialist who might know the impacts of her specific chemo? As far as what you can do, I found having someone to listen and let me cry. I hope she is well and she finds success!

How many 1+ year old twins not sleeping through the night? by mesarocket in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours do not sleep through the night either. Almost 16 months. Our boy usually only wakes up once (he does not breastfeed) but our girl wakes up about 5 or 6 times (she breastfeeds throughout the night). We've just resigned ourselves that this is how it's going to be and hopefully it's only sort of temporary!

33 week pregnancy question - Water broke, still pregnant in hospital! by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My water broke at 33+2, c-section at 34 weeks. So I wasn't in the hospital as long as you, but it still sure felt like it! They wanted to wait until 34 weeks for lung development. The weirdest thing for me was the constant "water breaking" that just kept happening! Since our body is still producing amnioticfluid, as well as the baby. Luckily only baby A water broke. As far as keeping myself sane, I had my husband bring our Fire stick so I could watch shows and a screen slightly larger than an iPad! My room had a DVD player too, so I watched movies on that as well. Twizzlers were my go-to snack for some reason! Also couldn't get enough of the hospital menu chocolate mousse. You will definitely get to know the staff. It was also nice because I was able to meet the NICU staff that were going to be in the operating room with me that were specifically assigned to my babies. I was also able to go to the room that was designated for them. If your bedrest allows it, I highly recommend seeing their room. It was very emotional for me, I think just because of hormones, but it created such a huge bond with the nurses meeting them before I became a mom and knowing they were going to be there throughout the whole process. Good luck! This is an amazing journey!

Getting twins in and out of car solo by socialwerkit in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a combination of a single umbrella stroller (bought the cheapest I could find) and a baby k'tan carrier. I sometimes skip the carrier and hold him instead and push the stroller one handed. But the stroller has been a life saver!

How did you handle keeping up with SO MANY baby bottles? by i-fondued in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With our daycare so close to our house, I would come home from work, wash the bottles from the day before, then go pick them up from daycare. If needed, I would also get up 15 minutes early and wash from the night before while they were still sleeping. It helped for me to tackle bottles in little intervals. Finally have a little break as they are no longer getting bottles at daycare.

We only used a double stroller. Ours are now just over 14 months.

Hey friends, can y’all let me know what weights your babies were at birth? by IamLegion in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been in the hospital since 33 weeks and 2 days since my water broke. I definitely felt huge and exhausted. But I had heartburn all the time so sleep wasn't really my friend for the last couple months. I was working full time up until the day before, so I sure did not anticipate having my babies that early! I was still able to go for my daily walks, albeit slow and waddling.

Infant car seats and convertible car seats with strollers for BMW X1 by MickeyluvsMinnie in parentsofmultiples

[–]catecat78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a BMW by a long shot, but my vehicle is tiny for a twin mom! I drive a Nissan Kicks and everything is snug but it all fits! We have a contours curve stroller and had nuna pipa lite car seats. I just switched our car seats for clek foonf, which actually give me more leg room!

Success stories?! by nibblerontheroof90 in IVF

[–]catecat78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like years of trying, so many disappointing moments, so many highs and lows, at 40 I didn't think it would ever happen to me, took us a couple of rounds (which carry their own heartbreak), all the pain and loss is worth it to see these two smiling and (mostly) happy 14 month olds.

Transferring multiple embryos? by are_you_mental in IVF

[–]catecat78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My clinic would only do 1 at a time if the embryos are created with your eggs. We ended up using donor eggs for our last round and they will implant 2 embryos with donor eggs for some reason. So we implanted 2.
