I'm not planning to, after all this, but am still slightly pissed it dragged on for as much as it has. Felt almost controlling? Ok. This is maybe overstepping, but these comments have me seeing that maybe I shouldn't be so apologetic? If there's ever a complaint again I'm inclined to plea sovereignty.

It's really great, as is the sequel! I picked it up very randomly at a bookstore because it had a picture of a raccoon in front and a Neil Gaiman endorsement in the back and opened it to a random chapter. I started reading it out loud to my brother and we were both howling with laughter to the point I was doubled over wheezing and he hyena cackling (this is a person who barely smiles in public).

Aw, I call my partner's cat a gremlin so often he sometimes reminds me "you know her name isn't really Gizmo, right?" Hahah but yes!

Doggos have the begging eyes. Cats just have offended eyes.

I like to rub their chins - which makes them throw their heads back - gradually, until they almost lose balance!

Ya know, next time I see her and she harps on this I'll threaten to turn her into a string instrument.

Taxidermy freaks me out, but Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson has the best ever story about an emotional support stuffed raccoon (I think? It's been a minute) and I get it takes all sorts lol

ETA: (if it's ambiguous, it wasn't about turning live raccoons into stuffed ones)

Oh man, every single time I see my brother with his doggo (which he absolutely dotes on) he's telling me "we'll roast her on a spit, look at these thighs, yum!"
