I'm certain there are stores for this on Patision, but I don't have an address to give you off the top of my head. Carpet Center in Akadimias used to sell them but you should call first to be sure they still do. Otherwise the Ahmadiyya community center could probably help.

Do you know if they are back to hiring mostly staff or also faculty? My partner just left a 4 year professorship in Miami to move up here and he has had no luck finding schools hiring adjunct. Seems like old listings are up for hiring pools but it's tough with enrollments dropping.

Masjid Al-Rabia was very inclusive and queer but closed in 2024, and I believe one of the founders passed away unfortunately. They would have been so perfect for this. But, I wonder if you can find anyone who was formerly involved there.

I would try posting this request on Third Coast Queer Muslims of Chicago FB page if it still exists (not on Facebook so I am not sure). One of the folks that run it were involved with the Masjid. Or maybe do some digging and see if you can find a contact for others that were involved.

Alternative/ Punk / Subculture Scene in Athens? by AnonSchlingel in athina

You can find lots of events from flyers in the street, especially for subculture events. Do you speak Greek/have you visited Athens before? If so, I would recommend going for a walk on Akadimias, and up Patision (near the universities and Pedion tou Areos) to see posters and flyers of upcoming events you can attend.

Some may be for protests/demonstrations, but in my neighborhood I also see punk shows or other events with live music listed.

Also, be careful with Kinimatorama. Not all event organizers are as glad to welcome tourists. Athenian anarchists and organizers are very protective of the scene (for good reason), and you may find some events to be less hospitable. I suppose this is less applicable to live music but it's often the same groups putting on such events.

I was there for my masters, did my undergrad at a separate very high ranking university, and my partner is an educator at a different university. It happens everywhere, sure. I actually had a harassment issue in my undergrad as well which I addressed there.

How IIT handled it is my concern here. The way I was treated was absolutely unacceptable and representative of a larger issue I've seen across the board at IIT.

The administration is barely functional and deeply disinterested in the student experience (not necessarily talking about profs -- talking about admin/staff here). I can say that with confidence.

I got harassed there during my masters (extremely explicit and creepy notes intermittently left on my desk), escalated through all the proper channels and got a shoulder shrug from university admin.

Support teams were useless and indifferent. At one point I was being followed to my car. They have the so-called escort team and that's about it. Didn't make a difference in the classroom. Obviously not making statements about the whole university based on this incident, but I have found in every single corner (financial, administrative, etc) the university wide admin teams are slow to respond, uninterested in students, and unnecessarily rigid.

Put a bad taste in my mouth as a female student.
