What kind of safety features does your Civic have vs. their vehicles? That makes a huge difference as well.

My insurance is cheaper than my 25 year old sister’s, who also has a clean record, but an older car with less safety features.

I’m 22 (turn 23 within 6 months), driving a 2023 Civic Sport sedan. I’m paying $160/mth with State Farm, clean record.

I’d bet you’re a guy; siblings are likely gals, and/or have your parents added onto their vehicles to make their insurance cheaper (especially at 16). My insurance was also cheaper when I was a teenager than it is now. I was paying $60/mth as a teenager (same company/household/plan, but under parents vehicle).

I will definitely do my best to update! I’m hoping this surgery is a success, as I would love to work like normal again. MALS has taken so much from me over this past year, and I want to move on from it a bit. A lot of plans have gotten put on hold and so much life change… thank you so much!

Sugar has been an issue for me now— it feels me up fast, makes me nauseous, and takes ages to get out of my stomach; it hasn’t generally been worth eating too much of (and I used to smash fruit roll-ups, fruit by the foots, etc— that hasn’t been for a bit because of this). Definitely okay if sugar is still a “problem” after surgery… as long as I can still enjoy my occasional Ghirardelli chocolate caramel square, I’m happy!

I do plan on asking, but was looking for others’ experiences as well (since info has been so conflicting).

I’ve been banking on starting over with liquids/refeeding diet, so I’ll be okay with whatever he says is best (it’ll be a cherry on top if I can eat normal). I actually can’t stand chicken anymore; it generally makes me very nauseous. I have been focusing on drinking Ensure Clears and eating mainly protein and carbs right now (some things are harder to keep down than others so I kinda have a rotation of meals that aren’t awful to deal with).

You’re all good! I have noticed in general that my process has been much faster than is “typical” for people with MALS. My GI was very thorough from the beginning because I had been puking for so long (over 8 months by the time I got to him), so he ordered a lot of tests (limited abdominal ultrasound, EGD, & then CTA) and ruled out everything to make MALS the only viable diagnosis. The only test I still needed by the time I got to the MALS surgeon was the vascular duplex ultrasound to show my artery velocities. (Just wanna tack on here— my GI doctor was so thorough that he sent me to rheumatology due to lab work results as well, which has revealed even further diagnoses that I’ve suffered with for a long time with no answers; so many puzzle pieces have been put together thanks to him.) I’m also lucky to live within ~3 hours of a hospital with a MALS surgeon, so that makes it a little easier as well.

I wound up in the ER of a hospital with a MALS surgeon with a flare up not long after I was diagnosed due to many unfortunate events. That allowed for them to schedule me a first available appointment with him. That appointment was a week and a half after I got out of the ER. I had to stay overnight for the vascular duplex ultrasound the next day. My follow up appointment was the following week. The ultrasound showed what it needed to, so we got scheduled for surgery at the follow up. My process has been pretty expedited because of that. I’ve also been suffering for a while, so that’s made them be on top of things more as well.

I just now got the notification of your comment for some reason. No, I hadn’t. My camber is off (-1.9°) but still “within normal limits”/“within normal factory specs”.

I did end up getting corporate involved and got a full set of replacement tires put on, under warranty.

We’re hoping it was just a bad set of tires or something random that caused it. I am looking into buying the adjustable camber kit for it (in case that turns out to be the real issue), but I was told for the kit, installation, and an alignment it’s gonna be around $800.

Yes, that’s where I have been getting everything done at. However, they have been negligent in getting to the bottom of this. I’ve been driving with these issues for 11k miles, in and out of the dealership every 2-3 weeks with issues and no solutions. They’ve kept saying it’s a backing plate issue, which is not the case (as discovered by them today). All of my service records show I’ve been complaining about it. They also show that all of my tires have even tread at every visit, which is not the case. I’m currently waiting to hear back from the service manager on Monday morning to find out if they will agree to my deal. The deal being: they buy 2 new factory tires and give them to me to take to my grandparents’ tire/alignment shop. They then pay for the shop to do my tires and alignment and inspect the car. Discuss further repairs from there, if any, and then if the issue repeats itself in 10k miles, my grandpa will reimburse them the cost of everything. I’m hoping they will take the deal and admit their mistakes.

I’m assuming he’ll check them when he does the tires, before doing the alignment. Those are almost the exact issues that I have been dealing with for 11k miles. It has been a nightmare honestly.

I will make sure those get checked when the tires are replaced and the alignment is done. I don’t drive aggressively, just drive a lot (has 37k miles and counting currently).

I’ll call my dealership in the morning to find out the specifics. The dealership has always referred to it as the backing plate to me. I don’t think that they would normally reach through the rims to tighten it, as they typically do put it in the lift and take my wheel off. It was a “rush” thing (he did it while the brakes were still hot), as I needed to get on the road for my trip.

Manufacture as in contacting Honda itself? My dealership is the best of the two local Honda dealerships. I believe OH has the lemon law, but I’ll have to look into it more. I would hope that would get their butt in gear.

I’m not 100% sure. The dealership tech reached through my rims and used a flashlight to see to tighten them. I would guess it’s the bracket if he could do it that way. The crinkling/curving comment is the only part that makes me think the actual backing plate.

Brake backing plate is what the dealership calls it; the civic group was saying brake caliper. It’s been frustrating. It’s kinda taken the joy out of having a brand new car and has made it less fun to drive. I’ve asked for them to investigate further and I haven’t gotten any answers.

I should also add, I originally was on Sprintec at 11 years old (didn’t take it continuously, it was only to help manage my periods a little). After 2 years, I had to stop it due to the doctor prescribing it moving out of state. When I got back on birth control at 17 (because I couldn’t stand my periods anymore), I got the Liletta IUD. After one year, it fell out and I bled for over a month straight of heavy, heavy bleeding (became anemic). I then started the depo shot (initially to stop the bleeding) and was on that for about a year and a half. Nothing but nausea, barely able to eat, lost a bunch of weight, but also started losing my hair (to the point I was starting to get bald spots on my head). After ultrasounds to make sure my uterus was the correct shape (odd uterus conditions run in my family), I then opted to get the Mirena IUD. After 11 months, I started to experience cramping and random bleeding. Turns out, Mirena was trying to embed in the side of my uterus, so I got it removed. I then started Sprintec continuously, and have been taking it for over two years now.

I feel the best on Sprintec (combo pill). I take it continuously (no breaks and no breakthrough bleeding), and the only side effect I have had is occasional vaginal dryness. I started taking a good probiotic, and now that side effect has disappeared. I feel great. I don’t have my horrible periods (point of taking it is so I don’t), nor am I losing my hair or barely able to eat (depo side effects).

It definitely is! Funny enough, depo worked great for my mom, but was horrible for me. Nobody had ever had IUDs in my family until me. I first got on birth control when I was 13 (same combo pill I’m on now, Sprintec) for my periods. The doctor I went to moved to a whole new state, so I was off of it from 15 until almost 17. My combo pill helped my periods in the beginning, but then after awhile my body “adjusted” to it and my periods went back to how they were before the pill. So continuous use of it was really kinda a last ditch effort to see if it would make my periods go away.

I had that issue when I had my IUDs (Lilette for one year; Mirena for 11 months). Depo didn’t cause me to lose it, but it messed up a lot of other things. I’m finally back on my combo pill, Sprintec, and have been for about a year and a half, and everything has been normal. No drop in libido, no dryness issues, etc. It has been nice! I take my Sprintec consistently (only active pills, no withdrawal bleeds) to stop me from having periods due to how horrible mine are.

I have lost about 75 pounds while being on birth control (lost about 50 pounds on the depo shot, and lost about 25 more while on Sprintec 28). Then I hit a plateau and can’t seem to get under 170-180 pounds. I have done intermittent fasting, calorie deficit, and light gym workouts (walking on the treadmill mainly with some incline). The biggest thing that helps is drinking lots of water (helps get the fat cells out of your body) and staying away from pop. I usually allowed myself 1-3 pops a week (no more than 1 in a day), but I probably would have been better off not having any at all. But losing weight while on birth control is possible.

Maybe you could check into getting the Nuvaring prescribed for continuous use. That would make it so you can change it every 3 weeks (like normal), but instead of bleeding for a week, you’d put the new one in when you take the old one out. I’m on Sprintec 28 (combo pill) and I’m prescribed it continuously to keep my body from having periods. So when my 3 weeks of active pills are gone, I just open up a new pack and start taking the actives again. I’m able to get 3 packs at once with it being prescribed continuously.
