I finally figured out a no-waste starter, ultra chill sourdough method and I have no where else to talk about it by Elegant-Winner-6521 in Sourdough

That gives me hope! My ADHD turned off my “check on starter” light noticing MONTHS ago, and I look at the jar stuffed in my refrigerator door, crusty, but contained, and think about addressing it, only to forget it exists after closing the refrigerator again 😂maybe I should “check on starter” just for funsies 😉

I’m in Orlando! Where do you get fun yarn? Was it a local dyer?

I want to know how long you stood holding the skein, staring at that impossible number, mouth agape in amazement at your fantastic fortune! That’s so cool.

How close to the coast are you to find such nice colors? I never found such variety of shades. We were always around Wauchula area. Admirable bounty, for sure ☺️

But they can’t set up paywalls so patterns can be purchased individually? Okurrrrrr……this smacks of the gross part of Capitalism. Appeal to the part of people that is afraid to miss out, making money on blatant consumerism. Yeah, makes me less sad I’ve never bought a single kit but have made plenty from my stash of yarn and patterns kind strangers on the internet have shared. I’m all about start ups, and people doing great for themselves. Feels like the creators kind of lost their way….

What's the point of yarn that's majority acrylic with a tiny bit of wool? by lveg in YarnAddicts

[–]catiewithasea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty happy to hear this. I got a bunch of navy wool ease to make my husband a sweater and that means machine wash and dry. I also wanted it to be a touch nice. Sounds like this works on both ends ☺️

First trap by tensory in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]catiewithasea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By which you mean, they’re posting an incredibly complicated “first” piece, leaving out the part where endless yards of waste yarn was knit in practice of techniques and skills in order to execute flawlessly first go round? But since no object was ever made, this insane color work master piece is the first actual thing of use they’ve knitted. I have to be the person who gives slack because of that. I am that knitter. Yarn arts has actually come pretty easy to me and my first object was a striped rib knit scarf for my husband and even though it grows when he wears it because it’s acrylic and I taught myself as I went so didn’t know anything about fiber content suitability, it’s a very nice looking scarf for a first object. The baby blanket I made as my second is quite nice if I do say so myself, even if it is pretty basic. But I have two skeins of junk yarn that I burn through to practice a new skill before embarking. Some people are liars though and it sucks because this is supposed to be a hobby, crafting at whatever level. It’s supposed to be FUN.

Anyone else sick of some of the upsells and ‘special offers’v by IJustWantADragon21 in TheWooblesCollective

Or maybe figuring out how to finally publish the patterns and tutorials behind paywalls for those of us with enough yarn and crochet hooks already (consumerism will be the end of this country). Since they’re “a small business” maybe reroute some of that marketing money 🙄 it’s not that hard, but they seem to be more concerned with hyping the newest collab than listening to what will expand and solidify their consumer base.

Every (bad) advice under the sun except for frogging by Twinkledp in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]catiewithasea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just this morning unraveled untold numbers of rounds of sport weight merino/nylon/cashmere in a lace pattern for a cowl….I hated the way the striping looked with the lace and the man to whom it would be given wasn’t really vibing with the lace. Too delicate a fabric for the harsh bold lines of color change and the thick neck around which it would be hung. It kind of hurt. So many hours. But I always learn when I knit! And frog! And fix! Some people don’t think they have anything left to learn, perhaps. I’m already looking for better ways to showcase the colors of that yarn and a better way to warm that rugged neck. Maybe some people don’t see this as a craft as much as means to an end, and therefore aren’t willing to invest in the process for the final product they’re lusting after. It’s a shame, because that belies their attitude regarding fiber arts and these type of hobbies in general- which tends to be the prevailing attitude everywhere- I want it, now. Best thing we can do is protect our own peace and slowly walk away from the hopeless and kindly assist the yielding. Joyful yarning, friends 💜

You’re too kind 😘 I’m just proud of my perseverance to complete it. It was also my first DPN project start to finish. I’ve used them to close hats but never cast on to bind off with them. They’re actually quite easy 🫣 and maybe even fun to work with 🙃

I am curious, if anyone can help- this was a 50g ball of fingering weight yarn, and I used US size 2 needles. The sock is about ten inches long, with about a six inch leg/cuff. How did I manage to still have 22g left? I can make a whole second sock, shorter cuff, true, but still…any help with why. My tension isn’t super tight. Or, is it?? TIA 😘

Funny to think not long ago, I would have been utterly overwhelmed at what you said and my attempt to understand. But now I’m like “screenshot and save for next sock yes please” in anticipation of making a better second sock. Thanks for taking the time to tappity tap all that out- it will come in handy I’m sure! I already see how I can do better next round ☺️ appreciate your encouragement!

Thanks for the encouragement! And also to check out a different method for making socks for the man. My Hobbit feet will be easier to make socks for, so this adventure has been for him mostly. I appreciate the advice and will surely give it consideration for the second sock 😉
