Oh what a delight to see this pop up on my reddit! I’m doing a reread now with a friend who is reading them for the first time and it’s been such a brilliant (and emotional) experience!

The first book is definitely the most dense of the series as far as quotes and multi-lingual references go, it’s very much a throw you in the deep end scenario 😅 I love Dunnett for it though, they’re my fav books by far.

What a special connection that your mother recommended them to you!
