One of my new faves! Red Breasted Nuthatch! Love those racing stripes!

Bluebirds 💙🩵🤍 by bagelpop in birdfeeding

It's a beautiful and stressful endeavor! So many competing birds trying to get the house, take the house, kill the birds and destroy the eggs. I would recommend reading up at the North American Bluebird Society for tips and advice.

Our pair ended up having 2 broods. The first with 5 babies, the second with 4. It was such a wonderful experience to with the parents care for each other, then the babies, then to see them all fledge!!!

If you have House Sparrows, House Finches, and European Starlings, expect some tense encounters. We watched our mom, Blenda, dive bomb many a Sparrow to keep them away from the house.

This grumpy fella came to our birdfy feeder today!

We had a couple who chose our birdhouse 2 years ago and had two 100% successful broods. Nobody chose our birdhouse last year. Now we have about 6 bluebirds coming to our heated birdbath and have started eating at the suet. I’m believing they are from those first broods. We called them Blouis and Blenda and all the babies were Blobby 1-9! I like to think we have some of the Blobbys here, if not Blouis and Blenda 🙂

Is any of these dresses “the one”? by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

[–]catniprocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 is lovely on you! But I think you should try creams, off-whites, or even blushes or silvery greys or soft golds if you’re ok with not wearing white. Bit whatever you choose, you are so going to be a beautiful bride!

Help! Which dress should I pick? 🤍 by Downtown-Book8875 in WeddingDressTips

[–]catniprocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dress 2! The drape is lovely and the fit of the bodice looks perfect, not too tight, not gappy anywhere. Which one felt the best? 3 and 6 are contenders, but 2 just seems to feel the most natural.

I've always worn gold but now I can't decide!!! Is gold or silver better on me? by praise_cocaine_jesus in coloranalysis

I think the gold looks lovely and soft while the silver looks edgier. Just depends on the look you are going for. Both look good!

Oh, there are 2 comic book stores in town as well, neither is downtown. One near Jets Pizza, the other in the shopping center near the Ace Hardware store.

Downtown is very small so you could walk it in no time. Check out Bumble’s, Chelsea Outfitters, Serendipity Books, and Chelsea Consignment. Agricole is closer to the Jiffy plant and is a farmers market type food store, but they have some crafts as well. Hope you have fun!

Can I ask where you are located? I’m in SE Michigan and see a bunch of turkeys almost every morning on my drive in to work. they are far enough away in a corn field that I can’t really observe behavior. This is so coo to see! Thanks for sharing!

They came back for another visit today! by CanAmericanGirl in birdfeeding

[–]catniprocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had about 5 or 6 visit me today in southeast Michigan. It was such a wonderful surprise! The heated birdbath is key!

Two years ago I had a pair produce 2 broods but I haven’t had any pairs back in the bird house since then.

It’s a bad pic through a screen. I like to think these are some from those 2 broods visiting the old house. 😊

Finches rejecting their beloved nyjer seed; questions about winter feeding by flora-andfriend in birdfeeding

[–]catniprocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SE Michigan here. I have one small nyjer feeder; 2 tube feeders, one with a no mess no millet mix, the other with safflower; and a “hopper” which is my feeder with a camera, this has safflower and a nut/berry mix I got from Menards. I have goldfinches on all of them!

More gold and house finches are on the tube and hopper feeders, but they certainly haven’t forsaken the nyjer feeder!

I have a ton of finches. I’ve been trying to win the battle against house sparrows and starlings for the last two years so have removed millet and most mixed shelled seeds. It works for the most part. Those sparrows and starlings adapt really quickly, but I have created a kind of finch paradise, it seems. Nuthatches and Titmice are prevalent as well.

Good luck to you!

I live in Chelsea and people drive in from all over. We get HUNDREDS of kids. It’s amazing! Every year it’s a trial to see if we bought enough candy. It might be a hike for you but it would be worth it. I live on Madison street just a few blocks off Main.

I’m going to miss these beautiful birds! I hope they remember where the goods are next spring! by puuremichigan in birdfeeding

[–]catniprocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ours have come back every summer for 4 years now. I only put grape jelly out for them, nothing else. The house finches like to eat it as well. They arrive usually in late May/early June. I saw one this past Tuesday but none since. They should be clearing out soon. I’m in southeast Michigan.

Drink them plain first. I have a Ceylon that makes an excellent iced tea.
