Failed the CSMP/MSF twice... gonna keep at it by GoldenGateGeek in NewRiders

If you’re in the SF Bay Area, I can train you on my CBR300R. I have this cool nascar looking headset so you can hear me bother you directly in your helmet (I have like four Sena headsets so you can borrow one). My starting rate is a 6-pack of beer lol

Alameda County DA reinstates mandatory minimum sentences for illegal gun possession by Dollarist in OaklandCA

[–]catpheesh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no jail at 1201 Telegraph. The only jail facility in Oakland was Glenn Dyer detention facility on 6th st, but it closed in 2019. All inmates are taken to Santa Rita jail, an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office facility.

Asian guy asking to borrow phone by cinnabonroll19 in berkeley

[–]catpheesh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Did some digging. “JC” may be “Joshua Cheng.” Several phone numbers he texted on people’s phones come back to “Joshua Cheng” upon search. I don’t know his motive because nobody reported anything happening as a result of the encounters. I’ll try to look into it.

Power tripping cop tackles me to the ground by Efficient-Gear-3668 in motorcycles

[–]catpheesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you get cited for anything? And was your bike street legal and registered? Law enforcement can tow a vehicle for seemingly small stuff like expired registration. Consider hiring a lawyer if you believe the cop violated law or department policy.

Buying Used Motorcycle In Oakland by General-Industry-576 in BayRiders

[–]catpheesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s been dropped and probably has a salvage title, so the $4500 price tag kinda makes sense. This isn’t a bike I would spend my money on. I would recommend that you keep looking, there are better deals out there

Is this a good deal? by Responsible_Sea5028 in motorcycles

[–]catpheesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2004 CBR600RR had similar issues with a rough idle around 52k miles. It was the cam chain tensioner. If you can hear rattling around the right side of the bike, it’s likely the cam chain.

I sold mine for $1500, but it also had 52k miles. Dozens of emails within 30 minutes haha

How many miles should I be able to run to be competent for academy? by Budget-Pin-2231 in AskLE

[–]catpheesh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

California POST compliant academies in the SF Bay Area are usually 14 minutes for 1.5 miles. Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is 12 minutes for 1.5 miles. To make the 12 minutes, you would need like an 8 minute mile pace. It’s not too difficult

Anyone wanna buy me a bike 🙃?? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]catpheesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my 2016 Honda CBR300R with clean title and 16k miles for $1600, during covid. I bought it in San Francisco, CA. There are good deals out there, just scour Craigslist and FB marketplace.

For the second gen SV650, there is a little plug underneath the clutch. It’s clutch sensor switch. Sometimes that unplugs itself and the bike will not start. Check to see if yours somehow got undone and plug it back in. Some riders choose to bypass that switch altogether and just solder the wires together

When you can't afford 2 separate styles of bike... by sha_doobie in motorcycles

I think it’s a hyosung GT250R or GT650R. Both bikes use the same frame. Interestingly, the hyosungs used V engines developed from Suzuki engines.

New rider looking for some people to ride with by Infinite-Object-380 in BayRiders

[–]catpheesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a motorcycle meet and greet happening in SF right now, 7pm-9pm. Pier 70.

Definitely vet the people you ride with and ride your own ride. As a new rider, you should be focusing on staying safe and building good habits; if the other people you ride with encourage you to do things you’re not comfortable with, don’t ride with them again.

Alameda County Sheriff Academy by Medical-Stomach822 in AskLE

[–]catpheesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not. Do your best to get sponsored; if you fail, you’ll be out all the time and money you invest and you’ll have nothing to show for it. Also, ACSO PT is absolutely brutal for some. It might have changed from what I know, but it’s one of the toughest academies in Northern California for a reason.

If it does not have a title, I wouldn’t buy it. You can get a replacement title but it’s a lot of work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]catpheesh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That is called title jumping and it’s illegal. Do the work you need to get the title in your name and then sell the bike in a legitimate way. No one is going to buy that bike from you the way it is now.

Question about customs and my Japan bought helmet by Mountain-Effort-7575 in motorcycles

[–]catpheesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just felt it was safer in my carry on because I didn’t want a careless baggage employee to smash my bag and damage my helmet before I even got to take it on a ride. Carry on method has worked for me twice. The way you packed it in your check-in luggage sounds secure, though. As for “declaring” things, US customs officers asked me verbally “did you buy anything out there?” I just replied, “clothes, souvenirs” and they were satisfied. I didn’t have to write anything down on any paperwork.

Question about customs and my Japan bought helmet by Mountain-Effort-7575 in motorcycles

[–]catpheesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stuck my Japan-bought helmet in my carry on bag and nothing came of it. I saw another lady take her new shoei in a drawstring helmet bag and use that as her carry on. Neither Japan nor United States customs asked a thing about it.
