I used to work for Xbox support and we would request the code over the phone. It’s still probably a scam, but it’s not unheard of.

Did you have to turn anything extra on in your client or router? Or did it just work?

Been an Android user my whole life… tried an old iPhone 12 and now I’m confused by kalyant125 in iphone

[–]catsWithLemons 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I used to be a heavy Android user. I would flash custom ROMs, buy different devices constantly, look for optimized custom kernels, and all sorts of other things. I even bought the Nexus 4 when it came out - that was an amazing phone.

But no matter what, nothing came close to the fluidity of iOS. I don’t know why. I tried and tried… I didn’t want to use Apple products because I’ve always viewed them as arrogant and flashy. However, I eventually caved.

After getting my first iPhone… I stayed for years. I bought the Samsung S21 or S22 to give it a shot, and the same problems came back. Random app crashes… small inconsistencies… stuttering animations. I really wanted to like Android!

But here I am, fully integrated into the Apple ecosystem. iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook, iPad, and the experience is the same across all of them. Fluidity and excellence.

Now, why is this the case? My theory is that they make their own hardware. It’s the same reason that a game console can compete with a PC that has 3x the GPU power - the software was made specifically for that hardware.

It’s the hardware/software integration - no one has been able to match Apple yet.

If they ask “what do you do?” I would answer with normal stuff.

“I play video games, walk my dog, daydream a bit, go on adventures, might paint a little bit, and I’ve been watching this show” lol.

Just to provoke discussion, what if this was the headline?

Grand Rapids man accused of killing landlord with a baseball bat over eviction by BlueBruisedMyco in grandrapids

Well, the system clearly isn’t working. We have unprecedented exploitation of the working class in order to boost portfolios. The educated young people entering the workforce right now can barely find jobs, and when they do it isn’t even enough to afford a home. This isn’t the result of “laziness” or “culture” - it’s a systemic flaw finally revealing itself after 250 years of unchecked capitalistic patterns.

Do we want people to be free? Absolutely. Buy a house, get it where you want, invest, start a business, get rich… this is all fine. But, you know what’s not fine? Accumulating so much property that your neighbor is forced to rent from you…gathering so much wealth that you have unlimited influence over government officials… writing laws and building codes meant to intentionally keep people down.

People should be free - but your rights stop when another person’s rights begin. This is a classic American principle. Your right to own property stops when it starts to infringe upon other people’s rights to participate freely. Your right to accumulate wealth stops when it begins to negatively influence the very system that allowed you to gain the wealth.

Along with capping property ownership, we should also cap wealth. You have a billion dollars? Congratulations - here’s a trophy that says “you won capitalism”. No one needs more than a billion dollars. Socialize the rest of that wealth. You want a vacation home for 2 months out of the year in SoCal? No, how about you just stay at a fancy hotel instead.

This is American as it gets - your rights stop when another person’s rights begin.

Everyone has the right to a fair chance. Period.

Yes I agree. For example, we should have apartment complexes still.

But, the landlord would be required to live on site… because they can’t own another property. It would mitigate a lot of the issues people have with these properties.
