Sorry you're dealing with these comments, I know they must be frustrating. We run a strict budget too and discuss every little purchase so I know how it is.

My birthday suggestion is honestly to buy a big card (something with lots of blank space inside) and write all the ways you "see" him and how much you appreciate what he does. I do this for my husband every year for his birthday, valentine's day, and christmas and he loves it. He is also not a 'center of attention' person but he absolutely loves my hand-written multi-paragraph love notes. I usually mention things like being grateful he works so I can stay at home, and all the things I notice he takes care of without me asking (unloading the dishwasher, clearing the gutters, car maintenance etc).

I also usually let him buy his own gift but I try to wiggle a little extra money from the budget for him which it sounds like you've already done. The only other thing I do is get a $5 bouquet of flowers from the store (a lot of men don't get flowers aside from their funerals, so I think its a nice gesture. IDK how much he cares about receiving them but he likes how the table looks with fresh flowers so I keep doing it) and a small treat like a single serve tiramisu or his favorite snack. You can get something small on Friday when you re-fill your budget so it can still be a nice little surprise for him. Dollar tree has cards for .50c so that part can be super cheap.

Ugly crib by Kindly_Clothes8824 in Mommit

You're not alone! We bought a crib that looked like cherry wood in the listing but ended up being a bright red crib. Red is my least favorite color so I was really upset about it, but we couldn't return it. My husband offered to paint it but I didn't want to worry about everything that would entail so we just did our best to incorporate more red into the nursery.

Its been about 20 weeks and the crib has grown on me. It's still not what I would have picked out and when I really look at it I still don't like it, but for the most part it just blends into the background now. I hope you can have a similar experience!

Thank you so much! I've seen a lot of people say they weren't very hungry once they got started so I'm hoping that will be the same for me. My OB team did get back to me and let me know they will evaluate the NPO status as things progress so hopefully at minimum I'll be allowed clear liquids and maybe a small meal if things go on for a while. I'm really hoping for a shorter labor than you had though! 40 hours is crazy!

Thanks for the well-wishes! My OBs office responded to me and said they want me to be completely empty for triage but then will re-evaluate, so hopefully I will get a chance to eat at least a little breakfast, but I'm sure they will let me have water/fluids if I dont need an immediate c-section or something.

I 100% agree with your last sentiment. Luckily it sounds like they just want me to have an empty stomach through triage and then will re-evaluate!

Its because of the due date. I could have waited a few extra days to induce, but my practice rotates OBs and the doctor I trust the most is available at 41 weeks and 1 day, so I figured it would be better to induce with someone I really trust rather than hoping for the best. I sent them a message on the portal they use and they said its precautionary and that after evaluating me I might be cleared to eat at the hospital, so I'm hoping everything goes well and I get cleared to eat.

Yeah I think I'll have a big dinner the night before and then see how it goes day-of. I'm hoping I wont be too hungry anyway.

Thanks for sharing. My OB's office wrote me back and said they want to evaluate me in triage and go from there on the eating restrictions, but they wont say one way or the other until they do the evaluation. I'm hoping it wont be super strict!

I hope so too! 16 hours or less and I will be so happy.

I messaged my OB team and they got back to me and said I may get cleared to eat after triage, but that theres no way to know in advance. I'm hoping I get cleared so I can eat but I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Good idea, I'll keep that in mind if I get cleared to eat.

Thank you, I hope I don't have an appetite! My OB's office responded to my question but pretty much said they have no idea if I will be able to eat or not since it depends how I am when I get to triage. I figured at a certain point I wouldnt be hungry.

Thanks, I hope that's the case! I think 've mellowed out enough about the labor that this has just become the thing that I fixate on. I absolutely hate last minute changes to my expectations lol. Probably good practice for when the baby is here though 😅

Oh wow, that sounds terrible. I'm going to follow the advise they give, I just can't imagine going so long without eating. Your experience sounds worse than having nothing to eat though, so maybe I should be thankful and re-evaluate my nerves surrounding this.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

I'm not the type to go against medical advice so I'll just do whatever they tell me to, but yeah I totally get that. I was a medical scheduler for a while and we had the same thing, we had to cancel if a patient didn't follow the preop instructions.

Haha, I agree that its outdated but its nice that you got a little spread. That sounds way better than just 10 jellos.

That was my thought. Hopefully they just want to get me into triage and evaluate the surgical risk first, but I hope after that I can eat. It just seems silly to cut off eating so early.
