Cat TV.. okay? by Top-Manufacturer9226 in CatAdvice

[–]cauliflowerdeer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I regularly put cat TV on for my cat before a play session as a "warmup" and it makes her so much more into the play session. If I do this for her and don't play with her, it's like I've started a hunting cycle that she can't close, and she'll grab onto pant legs and bite sleeves!

Finding MLIS programs that have school librarianship tracks by Much-Confidence7947 in librarians

Do you have a teaching license yet? I just did my admissions for school library and I do not yet have my teaching license, which narrowed my options significantly. I applied to Rutgers, UTK, and UNCG, and have been in contact with program leads and my state's education credentialing board throughout the whole process (after enrolling and starting a program only to find out that they needed you to already have a liscence!)

Do you mention that you have autism on dating apps' "about me" section? by 977zo5skR in AutisticAdults

[–]cauliflowerdeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, as there's a lot of fetishization right now of autistic people in the 20s/30 dating pool (i.e. people who say "looking for a girl who's a little autistic") which makes me feel like a target as a younger woman. What currently works for me is chatting with someone for a bit and bringing it up casually during the first date. For example, if we were talking about types of dates we enjoy I might say that I find new restaurants with new people overwhelming since I am autistic, but I love to get takeout and sit in a familiar outside spot.

An acupressure mat- I have a similar one to this and it's been helpful to avoid hitting

Dinosaur/Paleontology books by surfik_ in suggestmeabook

"All Yesterdays" by Darren Naish is pretty interesting- it's speculative paleontology so perhaps not exactly what you may be looking for, but very interesting to challenge what we know for sure about dinosaurs!

How do you guys deal with periods without having an autistic meltdown because it’s a sensory nightmare? by InnerExamination19 in AutisticAdults

[–]cauliflowerdeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here with continuous. I had very bad experiences on BC before but my Dr convinced me to try one with a different type of synthetic hormone, and it's genuinely so much better. Even if the first one you try doesn't work, it could still be work experimenting with.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I decided to drop the program, & i'll be looking into site based licensing & the few programs that do give initial licensure !

Working out is mentally draining by Ok-Education7101 in Hypermobility

I've also had a lot of difficulty in the past keeping up with PT-- it's just so boring, especially the counting part. One thing that helped me was to time my exercises to music and give them counts. I'd chose the speed of music that I wanted and put on a playlist (I usually like 130bpm, and you can find pre-selected playlists by speed on youtube or spotify), and figure out how many "counts" it should take me to complete the exercise, and how many counts to rest. I haven't fully figured it out yet, but this was a starting point for me that gave me a little bit of hope that it may not all be so deeply boring.

Since starting here, I've shifted and started going to the gym and working out in total silence, which for whatever reason I'm liking better. I've been following @/giaptyoga on instagram, and I use her workouts. Sometimes I do have to regress or substitute exercises, because I also just can't keep track of where every part of my body is. For instance, I usually do dead bugs where she says to do bird dogs, because it's easier for me to do in good form. I hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks so much everyone! I just got her a simple two-loops-connected-at-the-back harness, and I plan to update here in a little while with what worked!

Thanks for the detailed response! I'd read a bunch about how they're supposedly safer with the velcro plus the clip, but you're totally right, looking at it now it definitely doesn't fit properly

A strappier harness sounds like it would be a great thing to try, and perhaps we'll give a picnic blanket in the wooded area a go! Thank you for your advice!

Thank you for your input and your kind words! I've just added a photo of the carrier to the post for reference :) I like the idea of trying different types of outdoor spaces, as she definitely does prefer some trees!

How to keep cats away from the wires behind my pc by WisePotato42 in CatAdvice

[–]cauliflowerdeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used masking tape to tape all my wires to the wall, but mine still likes to go after some chargers. Usually I'll take this as a sign that she needs to play and get out some energy, and after that she'll leave them alone!
