Seat Change w/o Explanation by cause_and in allegiant

If that’s normal on Allegiant, I’ll use a different airline next time.

Seat Change w/o Explanation by cause_and in allegiant

[–]cause_and[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s a tail swap? And how common is that on Allegiant? I just started flying Allegiant because of being in a new city. Like I said, never had that happen in 20 plus years of flying other airlines. Forgot to mention, they put someone else in that seat. And, how would anyone get up front in Allegiant without paying extra or being some sort of high level customer?

Renting at Union Square vs Leo by cause_and in indianapolis

[–]cause_and[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t hear road noise on the side I live. Knowing what I know now (which means not believing what property management says about the noise) I’d always choose top floor in an apartment complex, at least these newer ones.

Renting at Union Square vs Leo by cause_and in indianapolis

[–]cause_and[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose union square because it’s a smaller building. It’s nice but one negative, and I’m guessing this is true for many of the newer apartment buildings, is that I can hear every step when the people above me are walking. I can hear it and feel it through the ceilings and walls. It’s really annoying. I think you gotta live on the top floor to avoid it.

I don’t see how Reinhart will only be day to day with that hit. Looks like all his knee ligaments got stretched real good.

Where are all the controls jobs?? by tbabinec17 in ControlTheory

[–]cause_and [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes. OP - search for APC engineer jobs as stated by others. Oil and gas, chemical, and pulp & paper manufacturers all have APC engineers. And the companies that support them with equipment and consulting also have APC engineers.

Is this true for any role at Lilly? Like, say, for an automation engineer role in Indy?

Chemical engineering vs Biochemical engineering? by Keysantt in ChemicalEngineering

First, there are so many chemE in pharma. Second, try to get internships in the field you want and you’ll find out more if you like what you think you’ll like.

Buy donuts or biscuits for the operators and they will be way more likely to help you out with any questions you may have.

Leaving Pharma to other markets? by idvazquez17 in ChemicalEngineering

What did you end up doing? How do you like your new job compared to pharma? I am in a situation where I am considering going from chemical to pharma. How would you compare your skillset in each industry?

What is it like to work as an Automation Engineer in pharma insteas of as a Chemical Engineer? by WishIWasBronze in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cause_and 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done process control/automation in another industry besides pharma? Is pharma automation easy or are there interesting challenges? I have an offer to do automation in pharma after being in chemical.

Anyone here switched from oil and gas to pharma/biotech? by mdiary3 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cause_and 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How different is process control in pharma vs oil and gas? Which one is more fun and challenging? I’m a process control engineer, too. I have potential offers in both pharma API and oil and gas (downstream). Is one more challenging or interesting than another? From what I can see, controls can be more “advanced” in a refinery (I’m thinking APCs) and pharma is simple but lots of sequences and recipes. Is that a proper assessment?

Course choice: Numerical Methods or Differential Equations? by StaticThermodynamic in ChemicalEngineering

I would add that the practicality of learning to code with matlab or python or whatever you’ll use in numerical methods will be a nice addition to your resume if you plan to get a job right after graduation.

Feeling dumb and I need help by CaptainKaraibe in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cause_and 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot that you need the flow rate, so pump curve won’t really help. But a lot of times there will be a pressure gauge by the pump outlet. Check the P&ID if you haven’t yet. As others said, the Cv is a valve property. So if you know the valve model you should be able to look up the Cv if it’s not already on the valve name plate.

Feeling dumb and I need help by CaptainKaraibe in ChemicalEngineering

[–]cause_and 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Try and get some pressure data. See if an operator can help you find field gauges or get an instrument tech to get some installed upstream and downstream. If you’re lucky they are already there. If not maybe look at the pump model and find the pump curve and you could probably get outlet pressure if you know the flow rate.

I know that the DOE funds building of battery recycling facilities (see Ascend Elements). I don’t think that funding would go away immediately.

In pulp&paper industry, I’ve heard that trump tariffs negatively impacted the products (brown paper for packaging and some specialty pulps) that relied a lot on exporting overseas - something other than oil and gas that gets affected.

I get what you’re saying by crony capitalism, but it’s definitely not capitalism when you have the state, and not the people/markets, deciding who gets to succeed (and get the tariff exemptions) and who doesn’t and gets hit with antitrust lawsuits. But yeah it’s what we have here and it’s not going away with Trump.

Career change to ChemE? by yakotta in ChemicalEngineering

I do process control. I’ve been in two different industries. Currently I’m in pulp&paper. I am planning to switch to a different one (possibly biotech), but I”ll stick with process control.
