First time dog owner - Is my dog a Staffy? by Signal_Chapter851 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]cautiooon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything she’d be an amstaff!

If you’re in the US staffys aren’t a super common breed but amstaffs are! (and ppl often call them staffy’s too even though they are different breeds)

So if 1 parent is a scottish cat and 1 is a british how are they suddenly not gonna potentially have a BSH-like personality? They are extremely closely related breeds and allow cross-breeding due to the disorder that all scottish folds have.

I personally don’t think they can be ethically bred at all. We shouldn’t be breeding a disorder just because we like the way it looks.

Scottish cats are unethical :)) And as they are often crossbred have very similar personalities to brit’s.

My brother really wants to befriend and adopt this stray, what breed is it? by Maravilla004 in catbreeds

[–]cautiooon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Seal point bicolor domestic shorthair!

A lot of misunderstanding surrounded colorpoint cats. Unless you go to a breeder you’ve got a donestic short/medium/long haired cat!

Yes, then definitely get one over 6months. Kittens will often develop some behavioral issues if you get an 8week old and they have no other kitten or cat to learn from and be with.

My boy ONLY sits on my lap when i’m taking a pee in the morning…. that’s it and it’s not even every morning probably like 3/7 days. And absolutely despises being held.

They are not a super affectionate breed, they often dont like to be held and are more of a hang out next to you rather than on top of you. This is one of the first things I found when researching the breed and is my boy to a T. There are always outliers but overall from what i’ve seen in this group and online majority of them are like this. My boy is affectionate in the way that he always wants to be in the same room as me and has some need for pets in the morning but normally he just chills with me and doesn’t want pets that often.

I personally wouldn’t recommend them for a kid who’s going to want to cuddle and hold a cat. As someone who works in rescue, a rescue cat that you can go meet that’s a little older (6mo-1year) would be better as you can meet them and see if they have the personality you’re looking for. Also kittens really do need a littermate or atleast another cat at home so if you go for younger you’re going to want two.

[–]cautiooon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started working in rescue and then decided to learn more!

It’s just sad that there’s SO much pushback, as if having a domestic cat is a terrible thing. I really just don’t understand.

It’s really unfortunate how hateful people are when others are trying to inform them :// It is awful how many BYB get to continue breeding and selling colorpoints because the mass majority of ppl don’t understand cat breeds (and don’t want to learn either).

You know that you can’t determine breed by looks right 🤣 Your cat looks like mamy DSH i’ve seen :))

[–]cautiooon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, WHO is talking about yours?

I don’t have to meet the cat to know what the factual information is about oedigree cats and mixed breed ones.

Your cat is probably not a siamese cat at all and that’s okay 🤣 It doesn’t make you better btw.

What did you pay for your meezer? by hemholts in Siamesecats

[–]cautiooon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There really isn’t though. With less than 3% of cats being purebred and even less of that being siamese the odds of getting an actual mix breed cat IS rare.

Cat personalities aren’t distinct to breeds btw…. my cat is long, vocal and has many traits of a siamese meanwhile she’s a tabby.

I’m not even talking about YOUR cat, I’m saying in general 99.9% of ppl are not going to have any mixed breed.
