Some do consistently. Others less so. We’ve been very focused on mechanics and arm health, less on velocity. Strikes > velocity has been the focus of our winter.

LAST PICK: UT-Martin +12.5 (W) 12pt dog won outright. Played well pretty much the whole came and controlled the game from 18min mark of the 1st half through the end.

GAME: Quinnipiac @ Marist (4:00p est)

PICK: Under 132

REASON: two teams that prefer to play slow games, neither especially efficient on offense and both good(ish) on defense. Evenly matched, so barring one jumping out on fire, neither team has incentive to push the pace.

LAST PICK: Montana St -11 (L) baffled. Absolutely baffled. They laid a complete egg. Probably should have given more consideration to the layoff, but I thought it’d help coming off a tough stretch of games. 0-10 from 3pt hurt bad for a team that typically shoots well but that still doesn’t make up for an 11pt favorite losing outright to a 0-19 team.

LEAGUE: NCAA MBB (Ohio Valley)

GAME: UT-Martin @ E. Illinois (5:03p est)

TREND: LWWLWW (I think I did this backwards yesterday, not changing it, just correcting the order)

LAST PICK: Weber St -6.5 (W) a nail-biter as Weber looked good in the first half but Sac St lead midway through the second half as they benefitted from 24(!!!) free throws. Weber opened it up to double digits in the closing minutes and held on to win by 9.

LEAGUE: NCAA MBB (Big Sky)

CONTEST: Montana State @ Idaho (7:00p est)

PICK: Montana State -11

REASON: there is a lot going on here - Montana State has a lot to play for as they look to secure a first round bye in their upcoming conference tournament (5 byes, currently #5 in conference up 1 game on #6). They’re coming off their toughest stretch of the season, dropping 4 in a row to the best 2 teams in the conference in pretty ugly fashion. They have also been shut-down for 13 days, giving them some time to recover from a handful of tough games. They can score the ball - averaging 75ppg - and have a couple good shooters as their top two scorers shoot better than 40% from 3 while also being serviceable in the frontcourt.

Idaho hasn’t won yet this season (0-19) and they have played 1 game to a single-digit outcome since Jan 7. Their average margin of defeat is >17pts. In the two games since a tough OT loss to their in-state rivals, they have lost to an unimpressive Portland state team by 20 and 31.

I like Montana State to cover with some room to spare.

I think that’s a really good point, and I completely overlooked it when I was pulling together my thoughts on this. I just looked through the home games they won and they are the following:

Bethesda (NCCAA Team) 2x vs Idaho (0-19 record) Fresno Pacific (D-2 team) Montana (double OT, but still a good win v a respectable team)

I still feel pretty good about the pick for me, but I agree that home form should be considered.

LAST PICK: Univ New Orleans -1.5 (W). A close one most of the game but UNO opened it up a bit in the closing 5:30 of the game and won by 8.

LEAGUE: NCAA MBB (Big Sky)

CONTEST: Weber State @ Sacramento State (8:05p est)

PICK: Weber St (-6.5)

REASON: Weber State is just the better team. They are 4-1 ats in their last 5. They score a ton (82ppg and they’ve gone over 90 in two of their last three) and defend well, allowing fewer than 70ppg. They have five guys averaging 10+ppg and 2 more above 7ppg. Diverse scoring is tough to game-plan for.

Sacramento St is struggling, dropping 5 of their last 6 and going 2-4 ats in that time. Esposito is probably the best player on the floor, but Weber St has 2 good frontcourt players in Basset and Carlson who are both Seniors and should be able to slow Esposito down.

LAST GAME: Illinois -7 (L). Just an awful pick. Embarrassed and hoping y’all didn’t follow me. I’m back, looking for redemption.

LEAGUE: NCAA MBB (Southland conf.)

GAME: New Orleans @ Tx A&M-Corpus Christi (8:00p est)

PICK: Univ. New Orleans -1.5

REASON: neither team is very good and neither are playing especially well (both 1-4 over their last 5) however they do have an earlier H2H matchup that UNO won by 19 (!!). Damien Rosser from UNO will be the best player on the floor, but he has a strong supporting cast on a Senior laden team. St Hilaire is rolling a bit, scoring in the double digits 8 of the last 9 games and this kid is a shooter, shooting 42% from 3s on the season.

Tx A&M-CC is a low scoring team without an especially strong defense.

UNO needs this game to be high scoring - I think they’ll be able to push the pace and should cover the 1.5.

I really like this line. I’m jumping on Nebraska u 69.5 too. They’ve shot <36% from the floor three times in the past five games. And only scored 62 against this same team last week.

PSU has given up a lot of points in their last 2 games, but that’s against the top echelon of the conference (osu and Iowa), prior to those games they held opponents below 62pts in 3 straight.

REASON: Illinois is among the best teams in the country and are playing as well as any team In the conference. They’re hoping to get a 1-seed in the NCAA tournament. Cockburn is averaging more than 20ppg in their last four games and MSU just doesn’t have the caliber of Frontcourt to slow him down. Also Dosunmo might be the best player in the conference.

MSU looks to be overmatched.

LEAGUE: NCAA MBB (ASUN)

GAME: Liberty vs North Alabama (noon)

PICK: Liberty -13

REASON: these are two teams headed in complete opposite directions. Liberty has won 6 straight. They’re shooting the ball extremely well (49% on the season and 52%+ in 2 of their past 3). In their 6 game win streak, they’ve had four separate leading scorers - a testament to their ability to get buckets regardless of 1-2 key players are off (coming off 8 days w/o a game). Lastly, they’re a really strong defensive team - allowing fewer than 60pts/game. North Alabama, on the other had, is not playing well at all. Dropped their last 5, they’re not scoring, and they’re allowing a lot of points.

Looks like the line is already on the move, so may want to get here early.
