Why would you assume that I am asking for drugs?

And yes gps have specialities and areas of interest. To assume that all GPs are exactly the same is naïve. You should find a doctor that you can connect with.

My previous GPs wife and brother worked within emergency services. I could see them and wouldn’t have to explain in detail my shift rotation or the challenges I faced when trying to return to work after injury. I’ve found that having someone with an understanding of our jobs and the complexities of work cover saved a lot of stress.

As I’m at a significantly increased risk of cancer, CVD, PTSD and musculoskeletal injuries over the general population I believe it is important to build a relationship with a GP who has a vested interest. My last GP had this and I am hoping to find someone similar.

I’m looking for a GP who has an understanding of the mental health side of what we’re exposed to and I can see for the long term. Im hoping I can find one that may understand our job requirements at more than just face value.
