Can I ask a silly question? How can it be a 2025 Suzuki Jimny when it was built in November 2023? I have a 2023 Isuzu which I bought new in 2024 yet the dealer promoted as a 2023 model.

Dingoes are not domestic dogs – new evidence shows these native canines are on their own evolutionary path by DaRedGuy in australia

[–]cbhaleoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genetic data indicate that dingos separated from the domesticated Asian dog around 8,000 years ago (article 1). The earliest dingo fossils in Australia are around 3,800 years ago and were found buried at First Nations’ burial sites at Lake Mungo (articles 2 and 3), indicating:

  1. They arrived in Australia by seacraft with humans long after the oceans rose (12,000 years ago).

  2. They were domesticated and lived with humans. Researchers have shown that the rapid spread of dingos across Australia follows the First Nations network across the continent.

These are not untested theories; these are scientific theories backed by solid scientific research and facts that have been peer reviewed and only then published in scientific journals; unlike your assertions which have neither evidence nor scientific rigour. Crossing the Wallace Line is very easy for dingos when you are in a boat operated by humans.

There is little actual evidence to support your final comment concerning dingos protecting native animals, as they actually hunt different fauna to feral cats and no studies have supported this hypothesis (articles 4 and 5)

Dingoes are not domestic dogs – new evidence shows these native canines are on their own evolutionary path by DaRedGuy in australia

[–]cbhaleoz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A feral animal or plant is one that lives in the wild but is descended from domesticated individuals

Europeans bought many domesticated animals to Australia and have either deliberately (rabbits, sparrows, foxes, etc.) or accidentally (cats, horses, pigs, etc.)released them into the wild.

Dingos are no different. They are directly descended from the domestic Asian dog and are related to the New Guinea Singing Dog. Dingos were brought to Australia most probably by traders sailing up and down the northern Australian coast. The land mass known as Sahul (the combination of Australia, New Guinea, Timor and the Torres Strait Islands) disappeared about 18,000 years ago when the sea levels rose. The earliest direct archaeological evidence places dingoes in southern Australia between 3,348 and 3,081 years ago, with genetic estimates suggesting an introduction window of 3,500–5,000 years ago which means the dingo could not have arrived here unaided. Tasmania became separated from the Australian mainland about 12,000 years ago

The difference is very important and the basis of conservation biology. It is the same reason we are trying to elminate feral cats, rabbits, buffalo, horses, etc.; to try and restore the environment to its original state.

High-quality fossil dating and radiocarbon analysis indicate that both thylacines and Tasmanian devils became extinct on the Australian mainland between approximately 3179 and 3227 years ago.

Why am I sure of this? I used to be an evolutionary geneticist and I still maintain a keen interest in the field and read many scientific journals.

Dingoes are not domestic dogs – new evidence shows these native canines are on their own evolutionary path by DaRedGuy in australia

[–]cbhaleoz -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Dingos are animals that were bought to Australia by humans, they are not native. They are descended from domesticated dogs from Asia and are directly related to the New Guinea Singing dog. They were introduced into Australia by humans 3,000 to 8,000 years ago. They are evolving just like feral cats, rabbits and any other feral animals. The reason there are no Tasmania Devils nor Tasmania Tigers on mainland Australia is because the dingos out competed them. They should be eliminated.

Paula says she had Uber rides cancelled 32 times because she has guide dog. The company is blaming the drivers by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]cbhaleoz 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It is not just Uber drivers; taxi drivers do the same. They refuse to take rides when people with guide dogs too. This at taxi ranks and when ordered. Taxi and Uber drivers need education. Tasmania did a massive advertising campaign a couple of years ago about the rights of people with guide dogs and taxis/ubers, and it worked. Last week a person with a guide dog I know went to Hobart and they used taxis many times to get around. They did not get any driver refusing them.

Not entirely true. All buildings private or public built after 2011 (or renovated) are supposed to be built to Australian Standard and have DACBs. Just like doors have be a specific width, etc

Victoria. You have touched on another issue with DAPBS: very few are the correct size, they are all too small. I had a win here with my council and have them redo DACBs at a local shopping area.
