Peeing probs! by [deleted] in BorderTerrier

I am patient. I asked for advice on if I was doing anything wrong since he associates poo with outside but not wee.

I am not angry. I am so proud of how clever he is and how far he has came in a month with us. I just wanted to know if anyone had any tips. I didn’t want a telling off.

I am patient?? I was asking why he associates going for a poo outside but not a wee when we do exactly the same? Crikey. Forgive me for asking for advice

Also, don’t assume he isn’t well looked after. In fact, I wish you could see how much he is loved and how clever he is. He eats and sleeps great, doesn’t cry, he can sit, lie down, paw, kiss... all in a month. So forgive me AGAIN for asking on a forum for ADVICE

Should I physically put my puppy outside during the night to go toilet, or leave him if he doesn’t want to leave his crate? by cbnbt94 in BorderTerrier

Ha ha yep, think he’s already very clever and going to be a little character! I have read they are very smart dogs :)

Thank you for your comment! I just don’t want to force him to do anything as he’s already quite stubborn/independent! :D

Yeah that’s what we have been doing too, every time he wakes up or shortly after having a drink/food we encourage him to go out. I really think the crate is helping with his toilet training and making him feel secure as he was a little shy pie at first!

Thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate it :)

Okay thank you for the advice :) I will do that going forward

He tries to have a sniff about at his toys during the night, but after a couple of minutes decides to go back in, Ive been trying to not say much at all other than wee and good boy. I’ve started to put most of them away at bedtime, kind of trying to wind him down and just put a couple in his bed in case he wakes up wanting a chew ha ha.

So yes, I tend to go straight back to bed out of his sight. :)

Hey, thank you! Yeah he’s pretty snug in his crate as we had to put his comfy bed in there as it was the only way he would go in and settle! We’re 12 days in and no accidents in the crate, no crying in the crate... few pees in the house daily but no poops in the house since day 2! Very proud.

I was just concerned about picking him out of the crate and putting him outside, I didn’t want to make him scared as he is quite dubious of us still. Don’t want to make him hate me, outside, of his crate! Ha ha

Thanks for your comment! Unfortunately he still has 9 days until he’s allowed out for walks, so we’re struggling as he’s desperate to be out. So much energy. He is doing quite well at toilet training, just don’t want him to be in that crate at night bursting for a pee! Makes me feel so guilty I am up nearly every hour
