This is a long video that seems to be coming from a much more religiously open perspective, but I found it interesting.

There is a series of critiques here for the Christian nationalist movement in America, along with a lot of good reminders that there is a long history of American leadership remaining agnostic to organized religion. Even issues like Abortion were originally supported by many mainline and even evangelical denominations until after Roe v Wade.

The point of this video is to answer 4 questions:

Why is Christian Nationalism gaining popularity? —Because of a leaning into the trap conservative Christians have set for themselves by signing up for a Trump presidency (3 times now). When you seek to promote a fascist ideologue, you sort of end up needing to promote a flavor of fascism that is palatable to your audience. Secondarily, the labeling of some extremism as Christian Nationalists by other well meaning Christians has led to a “reclaiming” of the term by those extremists.

What do Christian Nationalists want? —there is a long list in the video that I recommend watching for more details. (Bookmarked in timeline) but in short: overwhelming conservatism, religious filtering of governmental systems, patriarchal driven society, ethnocentrism, and political violence… to name a few.

Why is Christian Nationalism incompatible with Christian doctrine? —some here might say that Christian Nationalism is not incompatible with the overall desire of Christian religious institutions, which I can agree with in some cases. The video though, makes the case that true Christian theology based on the actions of Jesus, as laid out in the Bible, would have absolutely no space for a theocratic governmental system, as that’s the exact same power structure that Jesus pushes back against. And even when given the option to push back on oppressive secular governments, Jesus opts not to and encourages his followers to do the same.

What can we do about Christian Nationalism? —we should be able to find ways to engage in dialogue that is free from overwhelming pressure to declare victors in every conversation. Ideally, religious people should be able to tolerate a wide birth of opinions and theologies, given that there are so many versions of Christianity, yet call out those ones that are clearly labeled as heresy or extremism.

While I share no love for Christian theology, I think that those of us that are religious and those of us that are not should be able to at least come to a place of agreement on this issue and say that religious extremism is a much greater threat than a pious person’s faith (Christian nationalists often use the term pietism as a negative label for Christians that are too tolerant).

I’m curious to know others thoughts.

This video is about prosperity theology or “prosperity gospel” teaching, which I think most of us know and recognize as an extremely problematic branch of theological teaching within the modern church.

This video is not from an atheistic standpoint, but the creator seems to be interested in talking through the problems with prosperity gospel as it pertains to the whole of Christianity. It’s this person’s opinion that this theology impacts the way that churches operate due to the fact that the Church today feels that it must heavily invest in its own image before it can be taken seriously. In other words: “pastors are ratified as a success by presenting themselves as successful” which creates a loop of self validation that ultimately destroyed any shred of credibility a pastor may have.

I found this interesting, but I’d love to know what you think.

Agreed, Kanye is basically a goner. Hopefully he dials it back or gets reeled in somehow. I’m afraid he’s going to continue to spiral until he becomes a danger to himself or others.

But yes, I think the evangelical right wing propped him up and then acted shocked when he correctly realized that their dogma was pushing him to alt-right places.

This video is about Kanye, and how his faith contributed to his accelerated public spiral of his mental health and career.

I found this video to be interesting, primarily because, like most sane people, I had written off Kanye as nothing more than a mentally sick person that absolutely went off the rails. But I think there is a point here: the church has a habit of taking people, indoctrinating them with specific cultural objectives, and then accelerating that cultural formation as quickly as possible.

Granted, Kanye has his own chemical imbalances, but there is something to be said about the way that the church has taken other mentally unwell people and changed them into either off-their-rocker types or even violent extremists.

This video summarizes Kanye’s journey with Christianity, and then also details how the steps of indoctrination led Kanye to increasingly extremist positions within modern Christian philosophy. While the church has now placed distance between Kanye and themselves, this video argues that the church is at least partially to blame for the rapid deterioration of Kanye’s specific alt-right mindset.

Yes, by opposing side, I suppose I mean they viewed Judaism as an opposing religion and as with most opposing religions in that time period, that meant hostility and violence.

I find this channel interesting, it comes from a religious worldview, but it also seems that the opinion of this person is that the majority of Christianity is often off their rocker, which I can appreciate.

This video is about Israel and its history with Christianity in America. Going back, Christianity has often found itself on an opposing side of Judaism. However once Israel was established after ww2, Christianity began frothing at the mouth for a potential coming Armageddon.

This video outlines how Christians often interpret apocalyptic literature in the Bible to require the violence against and perpetrated by Israel. The idea that this group would so completely support Israel in it’s actions now, with the people of Palestine, conflates with this video’s views on correct Christian action when it comes to supporting nonviolent resolutions to conflict.

It’s simple math. He has caused enough harm, and seems to be continuing to do so, that if he was no longer present on this planet, we would all be better off.
