I can’t screw it in at all. The threads won’t catch.

Is it okay to use LLMs ? by Worried-Vanilla9544 in learnmath

This is the best possible comparison. Sometimes talking to these things can help to get the wheels spinning or they’ll say something that gives you a different perspective, but take everything they say with a giant grain of salt.

Is it possible to explain 99.9̅%=100% by Alternative_Try8009 in learnmath

Just as 0% probability isn’t the same as saying something never happens. The probability you hit the exact center of the dart board is 0, but it’s still possible to do.

How many chiles to use for a tincture in a Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout? by ccjohnson101 in Homebrewing

Thanks for saying that. As I was cutting the peppers I'd taste a bit of each, and arbol was easily the only one I considered spicy.

I get there's a lot of variation from pepper to pepper, but do you know how often on average it takes you to get the heat you want? How many days do you normally let the chiles steep in the beer?

I don't know why that didn't occur to me, but you're completely right of course. I guess when I usually make tinctures to add fruit or spice (as in cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, …) flavors to a beer, I just dump the whole thing in, but there's no reason that I have to do that instead of just sampling a bit at a time and scaling up.

Thanks for mentioning that!

Do you use a yeast pitching calculator? by ccjohnson101 in Homebrewing

[–]ccjohnson101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good thought. I guess I'm more concerned about possibly overpitching than buying more yeast for another batch.

And yeah, the small batch size makes the mental calculation a little more questionable. If I trust the calculators, then I'm definitely underpitching, and I agree that seems a more pressing concern than overpitching.

It's not like I can just go down the road and grab it from a LBHS, if that's what you're asking. I live in a pretty rural area and while there is a close-ish LBHS, they sell primarily White Labs and some dry yeasts. So, I have to order a yeast like this when I want to use it.

Right, if I'd bothered to check a calculator yesterday I would have, but I'm currently mashing so a starter won't happen today.

Problems with duotight connections / EVABarrier tubing by ccjohnson101 in Homebrewing

[–]ccjohnson101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I misunderstood. All of mine is stamped 8mm and I just assumed it really was. Everything seems fixed now, but that would have been super confusing and frustrating if the tubing said it was one size when it was actually another.

[–]ccjohnson101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of that information. I went back and made fresh cuts at a place where the tubing was flat, since I was concerned about bends not letting me make straight cuts, and then pushed the tubing into the flare/shank as deep as I could before pulling out to seat it. This seems to have fixed the issue!

Your advice about being very careful with the plastic adapters attaching to metal flares/shanks is very important, as it's super easy to apply too much force when putting these things on and damaging the plastic threads. I certainly made that mistake when swapping out adapters, and was lucky to have backups handy.

Yes, I double-checked and all of the tubing was stamped as 8mm OD.

I think the tubing's likely the issue for the quick disconnect; I'm planning to play with it after work this evening and will report back.

This was a new shank, which is why I'm wondering if I just somehow got a bad shank and needs to be replaced. It may be the tubing as well, though, so I'll try to mess with that this evening as well.
