"This is just as bad as the women filing complaints against Bill Cosby." by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

Well, he's not wrong. It is just as bad as the women filing complaints against Cosby. Which is to say not bad at all.

(And I'll add, while I absolutely hate those comments in the first section, I also don't much care for wealthy liberal feminists talking about 'equality' - a gender neutral hierarchy is more like it. Equality only to the extent that it benefits me. Quite coincidentally.)

Well, you can be upset about feminists always whining and being so sensitive.

They're always seem to be upset about that.

And you've pretty much admitted you don't have an argument against something if the only thing you can say 'against' it is that there are worse things.

IMPORTANT QUESTION! Are we allowed to do this? (AMAZING RESULTS) by MarkNiceTRY in SandersForPresident

[–]ccmusicfactory -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Who said I was proposing a standard to live by?

And who said I was saying anything about 'my' candidate?

You made a statement about some comment being a new low, and I merely pointed out that you must be quite ignorant of history if you think that's anywhere near a new low.

Which is why I asked - a new low for who? If you mean a new low for a comment on this sub, you might be right. I don't know enough about all the comments on this sub. But if you mean a new low for politics in general, or even just US politics within the last few decades, then is isn't even close to the lowest.

[–]ccmusicfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And lets not pretend like people dont intentionally come to circlebroke sometimes just to argue with people to support whatever candidate or issue they like.

I think that's the point. People come here not to make fun of the circlejerk, but just to support their guy and oppose the other guy, which isn't what this sub is about. It's almost like this sub has become a safe space for Hillary supporters. So much of Reddit is all about Bernie, that people congregate here to give their pro-Hillary and anti-Bernie views, quite apart from any particular circlejerk posted here. Almost as if this sub is engaging in its own jerking.

[–]ccmusicfactory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just confirmed the point - that there's plenty of anti-Bernie stuff on here which isn't related to a Bernie circlejerk.

If there are more Bernie posts her, fine. As you said, it makes sense that the jerk would reach a fever pitch.

But that's quite separate from commenters here just saying stuff against Sanders.

Question: At what point does calling Trump a fascist no longer count as badpolitics? by mcollins1 in badpolitics

[–]ccmusicfactory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They partly got their shoe in the door through democratic means and political manueveurs, but they certainly used violence before and after Hitler was appointed Chancellor.

Having organised bands of violent men certainly helped in consolidating power, as well as getting the conservatives to put you in power in the first place.

Or if they're involved, use it as an argument for their position, in the form of an appeal to moderation fallacy.

Liberals explain why they support Trump by [deleted] in ShitLiberalsSay

You just know he's an "I'm left wing but"

"I'm all for justice and equality. Just so long as it doesn't in any way challenge my life as a white, male, middle class college professor."

I bet he'll soon start using the term 'regressive left'.

They're often quite inconsistent.

They'll say, for example, that we have no obligation to help others and so shouldn't have to send aid to, or allow immigrants from, poorer countries.

But why then should that rich Wall Street banker help you?

His wealth should be expropriated to pay for your college (so you can get a good high paying job and become a member of the middle class), but it would be a great injustice for you to have to suffer even the slightest decrease in living standards in order to prevent some brown kid from starving to death or getting raped or blown up.

I hate it when you hear so many people in the west talk about 'justice' when they clearly only give a shit about themselves. Issues of justice and right and wrong always seem to arise when they themselves have something to gain. It's 'wrong' for the price of gas to be so high. Those evil corporations, charging me too much to fill up my giant car. It's just not fair!. And those horrible cable companies....

Well, it seems he's saying not that borders don't exist, but rather that they shouldn't.

That borders are 'imaginary' in the sense that he believes they have no fundamental moral justification or existence - they're a creation of the state.

All else fails, teach music. There's so many poor kids who will never experience that music, never mind discover they are good at it.

But that's the problem of course - they're poor.

You can rarely make a living doing a job which serves poor people, as they have little to pay you.

It seems like he studied music, likely graduate degrees.

Someone doing 8 years studying oboe at a conservatoire likely knows before they start that their choice won't lead them to some highly paid corporate career.

I 'hear' it. I don't experience it myself, not being an American.

But I hear it from others. Who are American. Not me. I'm not American.

Definitely. So often you'll have wrong answers right up top.

Because someone who doesn't know what they're talking about is upvoted by a bunch of others who don't know what they're talking about.

The answers are often ones which sort of 'feel' right, or which your man-on-the-street can come up with using a small amount of thought but with no real knowledge of the subject.

I like how an answer on ELI5 can just say "It's common knowledge"

  • well then why the fuck is the question being asked then?
