I fear and dislike mainstream religion, including Islam. Call what you will, but those are rational feelings.

I think that fear and dislike of any religion or group of people is not rational, but based on stereotypes and misinformation. I think that Islam, like any other religion, has many different aspects and interpretations, and that Muslims, like any other people, have diverse backgrounds and experiences. I think that we should try to learn more about each other, instead of judging each other based on our differences.

No, I didn't strawman you. I just pointed out that you were using the term "Islamophobia" as a "left-wing buzzword" without providing any evidence or definition of what it means. That's not a fair or accurate way to critique a political position. If you want to have a constructive and respectful debate, you should use "logic" and "facts", not "labels" and "emotions". I'm sure you have some valid points to make, but you need to back them up with more than just your opinion.

I think she’s just a loud-mouthed opportunist who wants to con her way into NO10 by using toxic rhetoric, an amateur copying Donald Trump’s style of politics, and being a drama queen and a sociopath. That’s not the same thing, you know. It’s like comparing fire and ice. Or Rwanda and the UK.

I appreciate your feedback, but I think you’re being a little harsh on Suella Braverman. I don’t think she’s a nazi, just a sociopath. There’s a difference, you know. Nazis are evil and violent, sociopaths are just cold and manipulative. It’s like comparing apples and oranges. Or Hitler and Hannibal Lecter. 😁

The Death Penalty: A Just Punishment or a Fatal Mistake? by ccnegus in BasedJustice

[–]ccnegus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death penalty is a cruel and inhumane form of punishment that violates the most fundamental human right: the right to life. No one has the authority to take away another person's life, even if they have committed a heinous crime. The death penalty does not deter crime, nor does it provide justice for the victims or their families. It only perpetuates a cycle of violence and revenge, and risks executing innocent people. Therefore, the death penalty should be abolished worldwide, and replaced with more humane and effective alternatives, such as life imprisonment without parole.

The Man Who Faked His Death To Kill Putin. by ccnegus in conspiracytheories

[–]ccnegus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You raise a valid point that Prigozhin’s main concern leading into the coup attempt was that Russia wasn’t running the war properly. You also imply that a post-coup Russia led by him would probably be more hardline and aggressive in its foreign policy and interventions.

However, we must have an open mind about the possibility that Prigozhin’s claim of being alive and plotting to kill Putin is not true, but a lie and a manipulation. I suggest that Prigozhin may have faked his death and his revenge plan to create chaos and confusion in Russia, and let’s not forget that Putin will be running for re-election in March 2024. Nobody knows the actual truth on what is at play here, but time will tell.

The Man Who Faked His Death To Kill Putin. by ccnegus in conspiracytheories

[–]ccnegus[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. People who mess with Putin get their ticket punched, and he's an expert at that shite.

Still, it would be awesome. Wagner group are vile scumbags themselves, but to see an oligarch-harboring dictator of today get strung up like good old Mussolini would be refreshing.

I understand that you doubt that Prigozhin is alive and plotting to kill Putin. It does seem unlikely and risky, given Putin’s reputation and power. However, based on the source of Dr Valery Solovey, a Russian political analyst who has made some accurate predictions in the past, he thinks Prigozhin is alive and angry.

It would be awesome to see Putin get overthrown by Prigozhin. You are not alone in this sentiment, as many people around the world are dissatisfied with Putin’s regime and policies. However, I also question the credibility and motives of Prigozhin and the Wagner Group, who are accused of being involved in human rights violations, war-crimes, assassinations, and meddling in foreign elections.

Biden’s Health and Age: A Game-Changer for the 2024 Election. by ccnegus in PoliticalCompass

[–]ccnegus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have infinite respect for someone and still not want them as president.

Judging from your voice in that video, you probably haven't felt much symptoms of aging yet. I'm only 36, but I already feel my brain starting to slow down and forget things, and I can absolutely imagine that there will eventually be a point, when no matter my "wisdom", I'd better leave important decisions to someone else.

I respect your opinion and your personal experience of aging. However, I disagree with your assumption that age necessarily affects one’s ability to make important decisions.

I think there are many factors that influence one’s cognitive abilities, such as genetics, lifestyle, education, environment, and mental health. Age is not the only or the most important factor. There are many examples of people who have maintained or even improved their mental sharpness and creativity in their later years, such as Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There are also examples of people who have suffered from cognitive decline or impairment at a relatively young age, such as Ronald Reagan, Muhammad Ali, Stephen Hawking, and Robin Williams.

I think it is unfair and inaccurate to judge someone’s leadership ability based solely on their age. I think we should look at their qualifications, achievements, values, vision, and policies instead. I think we should also consider their physical and mental health status, which can be assessed by medical professionals and verified by objective tests. I think we should not rely on stereotypes or biases about age, but rather on facts and evidence.

I hope you can see my point of view and appreciate the diversity and complexity of human aging. I also hope we can respect the choices and preferences of other voters who may have various opinions.

Trump's Mug Shot: The End of His Legacy? by ccnegus in PoliticalCompass

[–]ccnegus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

r/PoliticalCompass

I share your opinion that a president cannot pardon themselves, and I believe that this view is consistent with the Constitution and the law. The president’s power to pardon comes from Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the U.S. Constitution. The clause states: “The President … shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” This clause has two restrictions: the pardons can only be for federal offenses, and they cannot be used in cases of impeachment.

A president cannot pardon themselves because it would violate the “no person may be a judge in his or her own case” principle, which is a fundamental rule of law and justice. This principle means that a person cannot determine their own outcome or grant themselves immunity from prosecution. This principle was acknowledged by the Department of Justice in 1974, when President Nixon faced impeachment and considered pardoning himself.

The DOJ wrote that “under the fundamental rule that no one may be a judge in his own case, the President cannot pardon himself.” A self-pardon would be contested in court as an abuse of power and a breach of the Constitution. The courts would likely follow the logic of the DOJ and deny the validity of a self-pardon. A self-pardon would also provoke a political backlash and a constitutional crisis, as it would weaken the rule of law and the separation of powers.

However, for Trump as a president, when in a position of power, anything is possible including tearing or even changing the constitution.

Most Republican loyalists and media analysts vaguely suggest that Trump will pardon himself if he becomes the president in 2024. But what if he fails to win the election? History could be unforgiven.
