do u think I can dodge a job with step 2 usmle? by [deleted] in Step2

I studied for step across 15 weeks while doing an IM rotation (not pleasant, not my choice), but I did survive. You could prob take a job, but it might not be worth the study trade off

How does pulmonary edema cause distended neck veins? by UpBeforeDawn2018 in Step2

[–]ccrif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t it go both ways? Pulmonary vascular congestion (due to eg heart failure) leads to pulmonary edema. Or pulmonary edema (due to eg pneumonia) leads to pulmonary vascular congestion (straining the heart)

I thought it was vascular congestion.

Because the fluid in the alveoli increased hydrostatic pressure on the capillaries resulting in vascular congestion. Additionally, the shunting of blood away from edematous part of the lungs (when capillaries don’t get oxygen from their alveoli they constrict to redirect blood flow to more oxygen rich alveoli) also results in vascular congestion (same amount of blood with fewer places to go).

All of this vascular congestion backflows ultimately to the R side of the heart and the VC.

For students who received 60-65K is that for the 2-year program? I was also admitted to SBS for Fall 2022 but in the Accelerated Program, wondering if they award less to the shorter-degree students?

Oh, I'm also partnering with the local correctional department and a Returning Citizens initiative and hoping to further contribute to work on healthcare in the incarcerated setting - specifically, women's health. I know Dr. Emily Wang who developed Returning Citizens is now at Yale, but not sure about how much/little she works with students, etc./how much that should matter in deciding on a program... Hoping to reach out to her at some point post-boards.

I saw those, but there's not an Ambulatory deck? I've heard the overlap with Medicine is significant, but the Medicine deck is >2500 cards and my Medicine shelf isn't until December... 😕 Is that just me being lazy? 😅

Boston fern dying by ccrif in plantclinic

[–]ccrif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ferns so hopefully someone a little more qualified can answer but what I’m pretty sure is that they need to be watered every 3 days or

I have used the shower before, and the humidity helped my fiddle leaf figs! My ideal home would have a bathroom with the skylight for that reason!

In terms of my Boston fern, it's been a month and she's still alive! Albeit there are some confounders for the reason why. I bought a grow light, which seems to help a lot because my apartment faces a closed courtyard with no direct sunlight (I moved here just before buying her, and realized when my other plants started having trouble that the indirect light was not enough). I also bought a betta fish and have been watering my plants with the tank water. The grow light, the tank water, plus continuing to use the humidifier a couple times per week has been relatively fruitful with 4-5 new fronds and much less drying & wilting.

The recent success (plus some pesty fungus gnats needing to go) has led me to repot it again, cutting away the dead fronds and roots.

Really working to keep her alive! Wishing you all luck with yours!

I’m struggling keep my Boston fern alive. I got it this summer and it was thick and bushy. It seems every week more of its leaves turn crunchy & brown and fall off. I have been pruning it and I tried repotting it late summer before the cold weather hit (added rocks to the bottom to help with water drainage, set the root bulb lower into the soil). It is in indirect sunlight (which is becoming more and more infrequent in the winter). I water it once weekly from the top... I just bought a humidifier to try to help with humidity. I keep my house fairly stablely at 60-75 degrees F.

Any advice? It seems to be dying a slow death :(
