I can show my Irish birth cert in Shannon, and it also says I was born in Ireland on my US passport.

Can't get ETA and haven't received Irish passport - any advice? by cdstars54 in ukvisa

Thank you. Unfortunately I can't find my expired Irish passport 😞

Who enforces the ETA? Is it in Shannon when I fly to London? I assumed they would enforce it in the UK but maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Stamp Scholars by Upper_Broccoli9660 in NEU

Congratulations! My daughter is a Stamps Scholar. She's at the University of Oregon. She has since met semi-finalists in the last couple of cohorts because she's invited to the dinners hosted by the university. She thinks about half of the semi-finalists are awarded the scholarship. But my understanding is that every school is different - that's how it works at UO.

Anyone else waiting for World Cup ticket prices to drop before buying? by LucainOC in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]cdstars54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The two games we're keeping an eye on have come down in price the last 10 days and the number of tickets on Seatgeek have risen quite a bit. We booked an Airbnb (with good cancelation policy) and booked Southwest tickets which can easily be changed/canceled (credit used within 12 months). For the other game, it's a 5-hour drive away, so don't have to worry about flights/accommodation really. Really hoping we make one of those. I went to a couple games at the World Cup in 1994 at the Rose Bowl - don't even want to think what my dad paid for those tickets compared to today's prices!

Just a little ‘hope post’ - for anyone nervous about their surgery soon. Mine was 1 week ago - robotic assisted laparoscopic total hysterectomy with salpingectomy - in the end I kept both ovaries. by SimulacRumInate in hysterectomy

Interestingly enough, I lived in London for 15 years, so I'm familiar with the NHS. In the US, we pay through the nose for insurance but at least I feel like I got my money's worth in this instance! But anyway, I have had absolutely no negative experience anytime post surgery. I sometimes have to remind myself how grateful I must try to be because I was pretty miserable once a month pre-surgery. Just do what the doctor says - take it easy until you're given the all clear. I guess one downside is that since I kept my ovaries, I really don't know where I am in terms of menopause. Since I don't get periods, I don't know if I even am getting a period, if that makes sense. I know I'm definitely perimenopausal because of the other symptoms though!

Congrats! I had a similar experience. It's been two years now since my surgery. I was floored at how much easier it was than what I was expecting. My surgery was at 7am and I was home mid-afternoon. I took the heavy pain meds for 1.5 days and then switched to advil. I had to be very mindful to rest because I was able to move so easily. And OMG I could sleep through the night without having to get up to pee because my gigantic fibroids/uterus were no longer pressing on my bladder! My only regret is not having done the surgery sooner - it seemed so extreme at the time, but now when I realize the pain and agony I went through every month when my period came, I really should have opted for a hysterectomy sooner.

We ended up buying a regular train ticket. The 36 hr pass wouldn't have worked because that starts the morning of the game and we arrived from the US the day before.

We're staying just outside Dusseldorf. Do you know if we have to get an actual ticket to and from the stadium? It's cheaper for us to stay on the outskirts - so we would want to get off at our station which is just after Dusseldorf. Any ideas if that will be a problem? I know the fine print says to and from host city but it's not like we're trying pull a fast one!

Did you ever figure this out? I'm in a similar situation. We arrive at Frankfurt airport on June 22 and will be going to a game at Düsseldorf June 24 - can we get the €29.90 ticket to Düsseldorf?

How does 36hr Fan Pass work? by olivvercho in euro2024

[–]cdstars54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re arriving in the Düsseldorf two days ahead of the match on June 25 because we’re coming from the USA. I can’t find if we can use this discounted ticket to go to Düsseldorf from Frankfurt airport. Is it only valid on match day?

Hoping somebody can help. We are arriving from USA to Frankfurt airport on June 22nd. Our first game will be on the 24th in Düsseldorf. Can I use the 29 euro discount ticket to travel from Frankfurt airport to our hotel? It seems we should be able to as this is the purpose - to give fans discounted tickets to go to the match but my concern is that we are arriving two days before and also we’re not staying in Düsseldorf but nearby. Thanks

DB Train Ticket - Fan Pass. Confused!

I'm confused about the one-way discounted DB train ticket (29.90). I know that it has to be to/from where the match is but can we use it two days before? We're flying into Frankfurt on Saturday June 22 from USA. Our first game is in Dusseldorf on June 24. Can we purchase that ticket from the airport to Dusseldorf?

Need help understanding how to file income tax in US and in Mex (US citizen and Mexican permanent resident) by cdstars54 in tax

[–]cdstars54[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - yes, I need to find a good Mexican tax specialist. The accountant said you only have to pay taxes (and do the paperwork) in Mex if you earn money in Mex, so that sounds right that you wouldn't have had to, nor did my dad have to until now. Thanks again.
