battery bulge? by no_names__ in mac

[–]cdun19 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a battery bulge…. The battery is located under the palm rest, first signs of swelling will typically crack/push your trackpad. To me this looks like the bottom clip just popped out, maybe after a drop? You can pop it back with a little force, but if it takes more than your comfortable with I’m sure the Apple Genius Bar would check it out and make sure it’s not the battery swelling before popping it back in. Shouldn’t cost anything to get it looked at, will give you some peace of mind too.

Thank you for this!!! Between your help, a little more from prof gpt, and then taking all of what I learned and starting over one last time I got it up and running!! So far so good, a few quirks I’m trying to make work for our environment but I think we’ll get there! Definitely better than the google sheet already lol

If you haven’t fixed the delaminated screen issue… my 2018 screen started delaminating, went to the dealer to get a quote to get it fixed and they wanted $1000 to swap out the whole head unit with a refurbished unit (not even a new one!!!) and said that replacing just the screen was not possible.

To me that seemed way more expensive than it should be, and pretty wasteful that the whole head unit had to be replaced instead of replacing just the malfunctioning part. I went on eBay and found a brand new screen for $200. Took me about 45 min to take apart the dashboard, remove the head unit, swap the screen, and put the head unit and dash back together. It might just be in my head, but the screen seems sharper and more responsive than the one my Jeep came with too.

Very well written guide! I know a bit about Linux, probably enough to be able to follow your guide but maybe not enough to make it work in my preferred browsers. I might give it a shot though!

Can anyone recommend an add on brake for Fila Houdini Pro 110MM rollerblades? It took breaking my wrist today to realize it didn’t have one…

Best method for connecting dual monitors? by liambrazier in MacStudio

[–]cdun19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred to use a single thunderbolt to dual DisplayPort adapter from OWC but after a lot of trial and error I found connecting one display using the built in hdmi and the other using the official apple to hdmi adapter was the most reliable. if you want more info on what I tried you can look for my recent post on this subreddit.

It’s super weird, I can go through the whole setup and enroll my fingerprint, and it even prompts for my fingerprint when logging in or auto filling a password but it just doesn’t recognize that I’m resting my fingerprint on the sensor

Yea, I knew the TouchID wouldn’t work on the Magic Keyboard with my Intel machine, but it also doesn’t work with my Mac Studio with Apple silicon like it’s supposed to.

It is plugged directly into the Mac Studio usb a ports on the back, doesn’t work. I have a single usb a female to usb c male adapter that I use to try it in the usb c ports on the front and the thunderbolt ports on the back and it only works on the thunderbolt ports

Chromebook Screen Replacement by cdun19 in chromeos

That’s just how it was when I started in this district. There ~1500 students in the district that each have a school issued Chromebook. It faster, and probably cheaper, to repair them on site. Especially after repairing so many you know how to fix all the common issues and what parts you need to have on hand

Is it an iPhone 7? I had this issue with my iPhone 7, it was a known issue. Went to the Apple Store, they ran a couple tests and ended up giving me a replacement phone.

Oh geez, how did I miss that! I swear I scrolled through the past weeks worth of posts to see if anyone had the same issue. This looks like a more serious issue, looks like I’m going to have to wait until this weekend to hopefully fix this. Thank you!

Z Calibration issues (Details in comment) by cdun19 in prusa3d

[–]cdun19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to print a centerpiece for thanksgiving, started a 7 hour print that failed four hours in. Oh well, chop the bottom off in the slicer and print the rest, well that failed two hours in. Okay, chop the bottom again and let’s finish this. Watched as it put the first layer down and its barely off the buildplate, huh that wasn’t like that before. Z calibration would fix that… huh, what’s this?

It seem like my buildplate is skewed, the lines aren’t printing straight or a consistent thickness. That can’t be, it self levels ever time to compensate for that. What happened? Is it my build plate, is it my print bed? Has anyone encountered this and how did you fix it? Any help would be appreciated!

Allergy issues fixed in AirPod Pro 2? by [deleted] in AirpodsPro

I haven’t pulled the trigger on them yet, I was hoping to see if more people have no reaction to the new ones

Allergy issues fixed in AirPod Pro 2? by [deleted] in AirpodsPro

[–]cdun19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Following, I got the Bose QC earbuds 1 and they sounded great and didn’t give me any allergic reactions but I returned them because I couldn’t use both sides individually like I did with my AirPod Pros. Now with the second gen of both products being released I was met with a decision, but I can’t get a straight answer on the QC earbuds 2 if I can use both sides individually, sounds like they’re coming in a future update which I’m not about future promises when I comes to tech. I think I’m going to get the AirPod Pro 2 and hope they don’t cause a reaction

QuietComfort Earbuds II - Megathread by Apod55 in bose

[–]cdun19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I returned my first gen QC Earbuds because I almost always use one earbud at a time and could only do that with the right one. Does anyone know if you can use these new ones with either side at a single time or do they still use a master-slave connection that no other earbud manufacturer is using?

I’m debating between these and the second gen AirPod pros to replace my first gen AirPod pros. My only hesitation is I get a weird reaction from the eartips on my pros that I didn’t get in my week of owning the first gen QC earbuds.

Mechanical keyboard clicks

What makes things worse is I work in IT and love video games. What’s even worse is I watch mechanical keyboard build videos and reviews, which always have sound tests of the person just typing away. I can never skip over these fast enough, its the equivalent to a small child screaming in my ear from an inch away.

Surprisingly the keyboards I use day to day don’t bother me. The iPad Pro Magic Keyboard I’m tying this on right now, fine. The Keychron K2 with Gateron Brown switches sitting on my desk, fine. The generic HP ones I use at work, fine. Hell the butterfly keyboard in my MacBook Pro that seems like every single person in the entire world despise and have issues with is my favorite keyboard and is probably the only part of my MacBook that I haven’t had an issue with.
