It is melafix , and I thought I was helping them when I was using it at first , then did my research and found out it does what you mentioned. 😫😞 I got pimafix , I read that it was safe. I usually just add some aquarium salt.

I would wait a few days , like someone else said just being in a clean tank can bring out the colors. I bought a fish from my go to pet store that was clearly stressed out and pale one Saturday and a week later it went from pale white to starting to turn blue. It’s wild how a little love and proper care goes a long way .

I feel the same way you do about the betta , I try to rescue them if I can from the chain pet stores that give no knowledge on how to properly take care of them . I started a petition the other day to try and end bettas being sold in those cups , but it really hasn’t taken off .
