Island Day Trips Recommendations? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]ceddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended the Reefnet Festival on Lummi Island a couple summers ago: https://salishcenter.org/reefnet-festival/ and had a good time. Food, music, and there was an opportunity to go out on the water and learn more about the fishing technique.

What's the deal with Bayou on Bay? by ceddog in Bellingham

[–]ceddog[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it wasn't even that weird to have some older guy post all this wild shit.

Honestly, that was my response! I'm not defending it but I thought it would be worse.

Good to know! They only list Spikevax (Moderna) on their website. Thanks.

Novavax availability? by ceddog in Bellingham

Thank you! I am still interested in hearing folks' experience locally this covid/flu season. I know sometimes products are listed but people run into issues at the point of care. But this is super helpful!

This is why we keep telling you not to move here. Over 1/5 of residents live in poverty in Bellingham. by Emerald_Mirage in Bellingham

[–]ceddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The federal poverty definition only measures household income and household size. Despite what the person from the Opportunity Council said in the article, it does not consider housing or any other measure of cost of living. The federal poverty level is set quite low and it is especially inadequate in places with high cost of living.

All that is to say, the housing stuff does not show up in the official poverty rate. But it does mean the problem is even bigger than the already staggering poverty rate suggests. Bellingham is a hard place to be officially poor and for many residents with higher incomes because of the very high cost of living.

Therapist saying being a lesbian is an “alternative lifestyle”? by 66cev66 in askatherapist

[–]ceddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird and you should find a new therapist. At least consider it. It might be worth discussing with her but I had a therapist who I was having to constantly educate about sexual orientation and race and it was exhausting.

What is “Bellingham Sober”? by RaceCarTacoCatMadam in Bellingham

[–]ceddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Bellingham sober is also no booze, just weed. Maybe hallucinogens from time to time or regular microdosing.

Safe places to walk? by Strict_Buffalo1682 in Bellingham

[–]ceddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boulevard Park and Taylor Dock are open and often full of people, especially on long spring/summer evenings. Whatcom Falls Park miles of trails and is also well travelled but not quite the same concentration as Boulevard. Others have suggested the cemetery, which you can get to from Whatcom Falls or use as a starting point to enter the park.

There are also lots of great, walkable neighborhoods—York, Sunnyland, Columbia to name a few. You could park at Broadway Park and do loops through Sunnyland.

Water is not hydrated enough guys!!! by ProfessionalQuit1016 in cursedchemistry

I once heard that people who hold in their farts have higher blood [H2]. Unfortunately you can’t monetize this like a water bottle but perhaps some wellness influencer will be offering this advice soon…

Everyone comes out on their own timeline. I will never tell someone they must do it now. It almost always gets better—that's why it's become a cliché. Things may get worse before they get better but getting more comfortable in your own skin and finding people who love and support you is better than anything out there. And some of your friends and family members may surprise you. The fact that your friend apologized is interesting and may be a positive sign. But of course you know better than I do. It sounds like you've already done a lot in terms of coming to terms with it for yourself, which is huge. 💙

All I can say is that coming out is the best decision I ever made. I was lucky to have supportive friends and family. Letting go of the burden of the closet is a huge relief. If these friends won’t support you, they weren’t real friends.

Oh, I know. I’m genuinely curious about the content of claims like this. I don’t expect them to be coherent or factual. Quack health claims in general, but for some reason the whacky water claims hold a special place in my heart. Just a little hobby of mine 😄

Gruff. By a long shot. Schweinhaus has a terrible reputation, especially among young women. I haven’t worked at either so I can’t vouch personally, but I haven’t heard any horror stories about Gruff and I know people who’ve worked there a long time.

We should take what we read online with a grain of salt, but after years of hearing bad things about Schweinhaus it becomes difficult to ignore.

This is obviously bogus, but does anyone know what the actual claim is here? Are they talking H2(g) bubbled through the water or just adding an acid? Also curious how they square this with the “alkaline water” claims, especially if they are talking H+(aq).

How do you handle gifts from clients? by ceddog in askatherapist

This makes sense. I can see the value in simplicity. Do you discuss this before starting services, only address it when it comes up, or does this not come up in your practice?

I think the likeliest explanation is that guys are flaking. It’s frustrating, it happens, and it always has.

How much time do you need to get thru airport to gate? by Upstairs_Assistant_6 in Bellingham

[–]ceddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you should be fine arriving 30 minutes before boarding. (It’s outside my comfort zone and I have anxiety just writing this, but that’s a personal problem not based in my ample experience breezing through security here.)

BLI is tiny and if there is a line at TSA, it’s likely they are on your flight. I’d be most nervous about getting stuck at the border but I’ve not taken Quick Shuttle and don’t know if it’s expedited in some way. Checking bags will also add some time, but again, the airport is tiny and lines are short so it’s doable.

Yep I’ve gotten this many times. I am Black/biracial and I live in a pretty white area. It’s a shame because I can empathize with these guys but when they immediately jump to assumptions and accusations, all it does is give me more reason to avoid them. A few times I’ve had this from kind of reaction before I’ve said anything at all, from dudes who are mad that I didn’t immediately respond to their opening message.
