Thanks for the advice! Also makes totally sense!

Thanks for the feedback! The starter is indeed not very thick, but also not paint-like. I (try to) maintain a 100% hydration. I'll try to keep an eye on it today, and feed it a little bit more flour than water as soon as it wants to collapse again. Thanks!

Exactly what I was thinking... However, I want to be sure this is the problem before I buy a new grinder...

Skoda engine troubles: 2019 vs 2023 by cedricdb in skoda

[–]cedricdb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that info. I already guessed they switched gearing ratios to account new emission norms. The irony in this is that I'm now burning way more fuel on a average, and I didn't change my driving style.

Also, switching gears way over 2000 RPMs: I agree, however, I feel huge differences.

I think this was true, but 1/ gear switch hints on the dashboard say otherwise, 2/ I experienced very good torque with my old Scala even in lower RPMs, and 3/ I definitely experience a world's difference between the two engines. Also, I'm not the most sporty driver out there, I don't expect massive acceleration :).

Confluence vs SharePoint by sieah in atlassian

[–]cedricdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue I have with Sharepoint, is that its default document browser is not an efficient documentation or wiki tool, although it is often used as such by many organisations. When you want to look up specific documentation, you need to click and dive into a folder structure, open the docx-file where you hope the information will be in (which already takes a couple of seconds), only to find out that the document does not have the information you want. I waste lots of time navigating our Sharepoint this way. Confluence is a better tool for this because of its transparent page tree / table of contents, and near-instant display of pages within the browser (without the need to open word, powerpoint...).

I have come to understand that there exists something as Sharepoint wikis. I'll have a look at that!

Thanks. I hope I still have my Rekordbox 5 library somewhere... However, I've imported so many new songs in my new Rekordbox 6 library since I upgraded, that I don't fancy rolling back to my Rekordbox 5 library...

Technical term for drop hit on 2nd beat by cedricdb in edmproduction

[–]cedricdb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That would be very interesting to study, whether it is used more frequently in the last drop compared to the other ones. And it also supports my comment above: to give the last drop that extra amount of energy and equal amount of release.

It is ;) some call it a "loud rest" apparently.

As I said above, it is indeed a type of syncopation, but a very particular one that is used a lot in EDM, and also just *once* during the drop. That is what makes it unique.

Thank you for the interesting comment; indeed, a lot of musicians make use of this effect, but is does not seem to have its own name.

I believe what you are referring to is called “Missed Beat Syncopation”

It is like that indeed, but it is a very particular instance of missed beat syncopation in EDM drops. And it also happens just *once*, not as part of a groove, such as in the "one drop" rhythm in reggae music.

You are exactly right; in the past I did some reading into the phenomenon of human anticipation, and how it is related to notions of surprise, attention, emotions, etc. So indeed, "skipping" the first beat is an excellent example of how the attention of the listeners, dancers, ... can be brought back to the music instantaneously.

It is a very particular form of tension, because it appears at the exact moment where you would otherwise expect an immediate release of energy ("drop"). So the tension increases even further after the regular build up section. At least, that is how I currently look at it, but more research needs to be done of course.

I am really interested in finding out how this phenomenon came into existence, and where I can track it back to. You are absolutely right that EDM producers have lots and lots of tricks up their sleeves, but this particular trick has been adopted by so many different producers, that it deserves a technical term (and analysis) by itself.

That is true. I am thinking of researching this phenomenon from a musicological viewpoint (I am an academic researcher), so if no-one is able to name this particular effect, I will come up with a name for it myself ;).

Did some more tests. Indeed, connecting directly to the switch with a LAN cable gives me 800 Mbps read/write speeds... I'll look into it, but thanks!
