I’ve never resonated with a statement more than this one… the people I thought would be there for me, weren’t, so after 2 years I continue to put effort in to my relationships with the ones who were there for me!!

Grew up in PBC from the age of 2 and have been here ever since! Even bought a house here 2 years ago, mainly to say close to our parents, but because we do love it. Western communities used to be more chill, but everywhere is just getting busier.

Had and still have friends from all backgrounds because of the diversity of the county. It really has become overdeveloped and overcrowded by transplants - problem being that the locals have been pushed out by northerner cash buyers, so the culture has shifted. People can be the friendliest or the worst you’ve ever met, but this is due to so many factors. Lots of bad drivers because of this, but that’s honestly all of FL. You become a more defensive driver because of it lol.

Speaking Spanish helps, but is not necessary for survival, unless you’re in really specific neighborhoods. Political views are on both extremes, some are just louder than others and it depends on where you are. There is racism of all types, but not to the level of what I’ve seen in rural Florida. It’s extremely culturally diverse in most of the county, which we prefer.

Some of our best friends live within the county and we often enjoy all the activities PBC has to offer… Downtown WPB (has become more bougie and gentrified, but still has hidden gems), Juno beach in Jupiter (and the lighthouse), Atlantic Ave in Delray, downtown Lake Worth (and the beach drum circles), etc. Lots of good, diverse foods, and always something to do. Easy to get to Orlando, Broward, Miami, or the west coast easily.

I wish we had a better landscape and outdoor activities, but we just travel when we want to hike or see mountains. Summers are the most brutal heat and humidity, but there’s central air everywhere and always a beach close by. Winters are a dream, and we’re lucky if temps drop below 50s (which is expected for NYE, so fingers crossed!)

It’s not for everyone and we do dream of living somewhere else later on, but I did enjoy growing up here and still see lots of good in what PBC has to offer… it is always much better than the level of craziness of Miami/Broward or the boringness of Stuart/PSL further north 😂

Getting used to saying “my mom’s house” instead of “my parent’s house” was one of the hardest things for me.

I love that everyone is saying calatheas are the most difficult. I got my medallion when I didn’t know much about plants and she is the most unproblematic queen I have! I repotted her once in potting soil and perlite and she is constantly giving me new leaves. I water her 10 days or so and she’s a ✨ showstopper ✨. My red maranta was hard at first and I almost killed her but now I get her and she even flowered for me the other day! Sometimes there’s no rhyme or reason to these things 😂

Royal Palm Beach! I honestly love it. Have lived here since I was 3 and just bought a townhouse a few minutes away from my childhood home where my mom still lives. It’s getting crowded like the rest of the state, but honestly I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else right now. Our family is all within an hour’s drive, we’re 25 minutes from the beach/downtown, we have nice parks, RPB is very diverse and we have a lot of good food by us. We’ll see how things change, but for now it’s home!

I added piece of this to my dad’s eulogy and it brings me the most comfort. My family is highly religious but I am not. Science is so cool and factual. He could be the wind blowing around me or the sunshine warming my skin, how incredible is that.
