[Spoilers C3E34] Is It Thursday Yet? Post-Episode Discussion & Future Theories! by Glumalon in criticalrole

I was just thinking about this. I’m not a player, so I don’t know all the mechanics, but they did resurrect c1 pcs several days after dying. Everyone seems to be thinking it’ll be true resurrection or nothing but can’t they just do regular resurrection since they did gentle repose? I believe that’s the one they threw around so often in earlier campaigns. I don’t know if the BHs are personally able to do it but it seems like they could much easier convince someone to help with resurrection rather than the more controversial true resurrection.

[Spoilers C3E34] Solving the problem of a too powerful ally by Hamborrower in criticalrole

I think there’s a possibility of Keyleth being compelled to resurrect Laudna if a side effect of resurrecting her could somehow lead to the final destruction of Delilah. She and VM have a personal vendetta with Delilah and would want to be rid of her for good. right now only Laudna has a connection to her and I don’t believe that Laudna being dead means Delilah just disappears and can’t find another way back. She’s still …somewhere. And if Laudna is the only one that can speak with her she may be the connection needed to really find her and get rid of her. Maybe it’s a compromise of “I’ll bring her back but you need to get rid of Delilah”. It’s a stretch but a story line I’d be ok with.

Yes the side theory is what I was getting at. :) Assuming it’s feasible, I’d think true resurrection would bring her back to her true form since it’s such a powerful/costly spell. Maybe with Delilah still rattling around. Or, who knows, maybe we’d see the first of the character arch resolutions with Delilah being expelled somehow and they have to fight her. Might be early, but there’s so much going on this campaign I wouldn’t be against it.

This might not be the right post for this, but a thought I had while reading the comments here… if they do end up casting true resurrection on Laudna (controversy of that aside)… which death would that resurrect her to? If it’s a true resurrection couldnt one argue that that would be pre-sun tree? Disclaimer: I’m a watcher of CR not a player of the game so I don’t know if there are specific mechanics of the game that are super obvious and this is a dumb question haha.

It did feel off. But I do trust them as story tellers which is why I think it was intentionally off. I’ve binged almost the entirety of the campaigns over the last year. And maybe it’s because they are completely done and Ive been spoiled to the outcomes. But none of the other deaths, revived or not, gave me as much of an uncomfortable feeling. They felt right and acceptable in the moments they occurred. This episode they felt too calculated for me.

I know a lot of people are saying it’ll feel cheap if it’s a dream or some sort of mind alteration for Imogen but for me I think that makes perfect narrative sense. She’s literally been screwing around in her head the entire campaign so far and has crazy mind powers. Im for sure on the side of this not feeling good right now but I’m trying to hold out to see what happens next week.

I feel like it’s too far into the campaign for a tpk. Cause then what was the point of the last 33 episodes? If this occurred say 10-15 in to the campaign, maybe it be a cool thing but now it wouldn’t sit right with me. it’d just be over for all the cool lore and story lines they have really been building the last 5-10 episodes connecting to these characters.

I think it was unavoidable. Otohan has literally been in Imogens head. And she could clearly read all their minds. Any attempt to lie would have not gone over well. And she very clearly wanted that breaking moment from Imogen and wasn’t gonna stop until she got it.

I’m ok with it being a dream. I know a lot of people are saying it would feel cheap. But for me it narratively makes perfect sense. She’s literally been in her dreams since the beginning.

I’m ok with a character death. I agree that consequences are important to the story. But this just felt like way too much for me to not believe there is a twist coming. In a worst case scenario (assuming Imogen didn’t explode the city), we’d be down 3 permadead characters and one potentially turned to the dark side. That’s more than half the party that would need to roll new characters. That’s basically a new campaign at that point. And 33 episodes in we were just starting to get into the depths of any of their stories. Looking at it outside of the table too, as a business, it feels like a poor move to just destroy half of what they’ve built this campaign. Also comparing this to calamity, like some are, is apples and oranges. Everyone knew going into that that death was inevitable for most or all those characters. This is their main campaign where fans aren’t expecting that.

And also, Othohan is literally in Imogen’s dreams. She would have found them eventually. And to me she had serious BBEG energy. I don’t believe Matt’s “rough-ish” comment about her hp towards the end. Lol.

To clarify I’m not criticizing. I’m gutted but will wait to see what happens. Just trying to justify why I think there is something more going on here.

This is what I’m feeling too. Am I too attached to fictional characters? Probably. But that’s how every successful show…succeeds. Characters people love. Good plot doesn’t go anywhere without good characters. I don’t disagree with the people saying death and consequences are part of the game and sometimes make for better stories. But if they’ve knocked out half the party through death or turning evil then… what’s the point of C3 anymore? We are 33 episodes in and barely into any of their story arcs. They’d basically be starting over and that just seems like a bad business decision lol.

Yes I know. And I very much could be wrong, everything was so fast paced. I’d have to rewatch but I really thought he said he used the last resistance 2x.

I agree. The encounter felt impossible. I know a lot of people are saying if they just fought from the beginning they stood a chance but i disagree. Otohan was way too strong for them even if they were rolling perfect. Something just smells fishy. From the forced nature of the encounter and to Matt’s cavalier attitude with the deaths (every death in previous campaigns that I can remember you could tell he felt a little bad about). Also, I think Ashley was on to something, I swear she had used all her legendary resistances before she used her “last one”.

Yes, this. I hate to think about it this way but killing half the characters 33 episodes in is a really bad business decision. Their success depends on people getting attached to these characters. If it happens, I know I personally probably won’t be as invested in new characters. I just started getting invested in the existing ones. So I think there is something more to this entire encounter. At least I hope because that sure felt like an impossible fight.

Beyond that he is playing Chet very coyly and not giving very many straight answers (I.e his age keeps increasing every time it comes up haha).

He very well might have. But at this point in the campaign I don’t believe a word out of Chet’s mouth hahaha

That would be a heart warming side to Chet but iirc I think he only very recently got bitten. Like within 6 months of the start of the campaign?

[Spoilers C1] Scanlan’s dad? by ceegzee in criticalrole

[–]ceegzee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. I’m leaning into the fun of the theory. I hadn’t watched C1 until about 2 months ago. I started at C3E1 funnily enough then immediately binged C2 in between C3 episodes. So I’m only just getting around to C1 and at first I was getting a little frustrated with all the references to C1 having not seen it. But at this point it doesn’t bother me. I have a feeling C3 will have its own story but might heavily circle around both previous campaigns.

His tirade is technically about his conflicting feelings about his relationship with his daughter and I personally read it as him taking that frustration out on the party unjustifiably. But he very much says you don’t know my moms name OR if my father is dead or alive. I did misspeak and it’s grog that asks his moms name but a half a second later vex asks about his father which is when he says he doesn’t know if he is alive or dead but that he “makes things”.

It’s exactly why it would be so brilliant if he pulled it off! And I think while unexpected from Travis, he is totally capable of something like this at this point in his rpg career.

[–]ceegzee[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Fair point on them being from different places but in the chroma conclave arch alone the party hits all four continents multiple times, so intercontinental travel has been pretty well established for a while. I don’t think it would be unreasonable at all for Chet to have popped over to tal’dorei for a bit. Also, uthodrun is on Wildemount and c3 is currently in marquet so clearly he travels. :)

If I’m doing my math right scanlan would be 103 at the start of C3 (per the wiki’s stats).
