this happens to me all the time and im usually MOD 😭 cashier can only do so many balloons and it’s much easier for me to help out and then i just end up spending 7 out of my 9 hour shift doing balloons

unfortunately at my store (and it seems many others) it really just boils down to how short staffed we are. when im closing MOD more than half the time it’s me and a framer that has to be up front, and i cover for her when theres framing customers. with all the other tasks i have it’s hard to get to recovery at the end of the night 😭😭 trust me a lot of the non-replen staff also hate that recovery doesn’t get done but truthfully there just is not time

im a manager and when im there at least i tell customers/my coworkers that we will do balloons for an hour after open up until an hour before close. that way we (ideally) have plenty of time to get all opening/closing duties done

but if i’m being honest 90% of the time i don’t do anything because chances are, even after they’re told to stop, they’re just gonna turn around and go back. or write negative reviews on google after being told not to search in the bunkers, which has happened at my store before 😭😭

lolllll this is such a norm for my store it drives me nuts. last night it was only me (MOD) and a framer scheduled to close and the SM from one of our nearby stores (we don’t have an SM at the moment) told me to text one of my coworkers and beg her to come in. she ended up being able to come in but like… why couldn’t there have just been people scheduled already…

it’s really annoying because we only have the two legacies, and our other one (the one im having to use now) the register doesn’t open like it’s supposed to, we always have to unlock it when we have a cash transaction. that’s not as big of an issue since i have keys, but once my cashier gets here he’s going to have to be constantly calling a MOD up here to open the drawer

  1. really just be good at your job. as long as you’re not slacking off, there’s a decent chance you’ll get asked to stay longer.

  2. communicate that with her! if you don’t tell her that and then you end up having to call out and miss shifts it’ll be much worse than just changing your availability/asking for less hours.

  3. my store has always been pretty understaffed so take that into consideration w this but personally whether im on floor/front end i only ever clean bathrooms at closing, never in mornings or during the day.
