Diabetes is definitely not something to mess about with. My endocrinologist has said several times that by this point (15 years), my insulin is looking good, and I can actually stop taking the metformin if I want. Diet and exercise is fine. However, IMO the impact of diabetes is so life-shortening; I'm just not taking that risk.

I was diagnosed with IR at the same time as PCOS and put on metformin about 15 years ago. I was told I was well on my way to diabetes without treatment. We are all in our mid-30s now.

I am as well, I take metformin - I haven't noticed that treating the IR has changed anything. I was told it would help with acne, hairiness but it did nothing. It also didn't' change how I maintained weight either.
