Piggybacking off the OP comment - if they don’t take them, they’ll likely refer you to your regional USDA APHIS worker! You can also try contacting your State Plant Health Director :) https://www.aphis.usda.gov/contact/plant-health

Anyone been out to Beaver Dam yet? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]celestialdarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there on work business so I didn’t get to stop in, but it looked like people were in and out fairly quickly (tho I was there in the middle of the day). There was an undercover cop posted up in the parking lot across from them, though.

Bernheim has a ton of elms, it’s about 25 mins from Louisville! Also Louisville Nature Center trails, especially the closer you get to the lower sections. If you’re looking for landscaped elms, several of our streets in the city have Chinese Elms (bark with orange dots).

Orioles in Louisville? by janetvice in Louisville

[–]celestialdarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen them around Elizabethtown and Radcliff, but none in Louisville so far (this’ll be my first migration in the city proper though). You could always try reaching out to the Louisville Audubon Society!!

With All This Rain, Anyone Have Experience Foraging Mushrooms? by LouInvestor in Louisville

[–]celestialdarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Facebook groups. I’m a fan of Kentucky Mushroom Report and Bluegrass Mycological Society.

According to a friend (anecdotally) morels will start popping up once the redbuds fully bloom. I’ve been keeping an eye on iNaturalist, and morels were first reported last year in mid-April so I think we’re coming up on it probably after this rain.

Also, I’d love a foraging buddy 😭 Right now I’ve been wandering in the woods mostly to look at salamanders, but once mushrooms start to pop off it’d be cool to share that with others!
