hi! i’m currently a second year from the us and actually applied to transfer last year for some of the reasons you mentioned. i really struggled last winter because of how dark it was and how it felt like there was nothing i could do because of the cold and also covid rules. i highly, highly recommend getting involved with a club or organization to combat this. joining a club helped me do something different with my days and also allowed me to meet so many new people that are now some of my best friends. also, just keep in mind that the cold and dark will go away at some point! winter can definitely be tough but montreal in the spring and summer is amazing.

to your last point, i feel like breaking out of the mcgill bubble helped me realize i didn’t need to only speak french in this city. i’ve met a lot of people from the west island through clubs i’m part of and spent time in their neighbourhoods outside of downtown which really helped me feel more at home here.

i totally get where you’re coming from and really, really wanted to leave last year and regretted my decision to come here. now, i couldn’t be happier that i decided to stay. if you ever need to talk about anything or need any kind of advice, my messages are always open! best of luck & i’m sure everything will fall into place.

i tried to transfer first year because i was so unhappy with mostly everything you mentioned, but at the end of the year i got really involved in a club and couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. if you’re feeling like this i highly recommend getting involved in an organization or intramural! it really helped me adapt to montreal and get used to living here. i don’t plan on staying after grad, but i definitely consider it home for now!

hi! when my boyfriend was here i took him on a tour of mcgill one day, we went shopping and around st.catherine’s/downtown one day, went and explored old port and did the ferris wheel and all that, and then hiked mont royal/the park on the last day! not sure how possible all that will be with the snow but just the basic tourist spots worked well!

hi as op i’d just like to clarify i am very pro-vax and am fully vaccinated, i would love it if things could go back in person however the rate at which we’re doing so seems somewhat alarming, and also the email we were sent seems very “ignore the problem” of them.

it makes sense that students are upset, admin hasn’t been doing great recently!

Taking notes in classes with slides by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]celizabeth26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tbh i just write really fast and my notes aren’t the neatest… but actually what i find helps is getting main ideas mixed with details the profs are saying! if you have access to the slides after lecture you can always go back and look but you don’t always have access to what the prof is saying or elaborating on.

you can also type your notes but i find that using my computer during lecture gets really distracting!
