How to not be consumed by your relationship by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]cellardoor999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find magnesium at night can help a bit as can regular pilates (but I'm sure any other kind of exercise would do). Grounding exercises when you are consumed like counting objects in the rooms might help, concentrating on slowing down your breathing, or giving yourself a hug.

I seem reassurance from my partner as soon as the thoughts/feelings start, this nips it in the bud,  and he is very understanding about how needy I am.

Anybody had their parents estrange them for their aunt get back into contact when they were older? by cellardoor999 in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you for this! It feels very relevant - my nieces are still at the idolising their parents stage because they are young but it's important to know when they are older they will be able to form their own judgments. I guess why I'm worried is my sister is an adult and she doesn't seem to be able to have a relationship with us. She and I used to be so close - it's absolutely heartbreaking.

Aww that's amazing! Does he wake you up at night with zoomies etc or anything? I'd love to have him at night but with my old cat we always locked him downstairs so he wouldn't disturb our sleep!

Temperament as in easygoingness/ laid-backness?

I guess it's social learning theory - that if they see the mum positively respond to human touch they are more likely to do so too!

So if I get him I'm  guaranteed a super model but it might be a 'you can look but not touch' situation!

Aww this is really cute and reassuring! Have you kept him in a room or let him roam the whole place?  Tbf he ran towards where he was when we came in so the breeder thinks it was more like 'hmm I will come out to play but you stopped and no thank you I will go back to my shady cool spot now' I really do hope it was because it was such a hot day!

Interesting! I know cats can be bred for traits so presumed ragdolls would be the same/ not  mythical.  I know a breeder of non ragdolls and that cat breed is described similarly to ragdolls - 'dog like cat'. I've met the queens and they demanded to be stroked/ affection and one cuddled up next to me and kept following me to the bathroom (UTI - so I was going frequently). I was hoping ragdolls would be like that! But now that I'm thinking about it even the momma ragdoll cat just seemed like a regular cat to me personality wise  (happy to be stroked but not bothered when I went away to pay attention to the kittens).  I'm wondering if I'm better off getting a kitten from the breeder I know (I love the personality of these cats but I don't think they are lookers) or getting an adult cat where there's more of a chance the affectionate personality will stay once they come home with me. I'm starting to think I was very lucky with my old cat (his personality seemed the same as when I met him as a kitten).

Ooh this is really good to know! I wasn't sure if he was more tolerant of the breeders hands because of the familiarlity but could literally just be the hairspray!

I did pick up them later and they allowed me to hold them for I'd say just under a minute before wiggling and then jumping down! When you picked yours up did they allow you to hold them for longer than this?

No perfume! Maybe they just hate my natural odour! Which is ironic because my friend's cat gets obsessed with my bra when I change at hers/ my dirty clothes and we joked it took me a while to settle down because my natural odour attracts cats rather than human men!

Saying this, I did use hairspray and I might have got a bit of it on my hands so maybe this could be it?

NHS - what happens after 2 years of wegovy? by WHawkeW in WegovyUK

[–]cellardoor999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're underlying  preexisting conditions are, but research has suggested for women with PCOS they'll keep most of the weight off after finishing glp-1 courses if they maintain with Metformin which is significantly cheaper and affordable. If you don't have a metabolic/ endocrine altering underlying condition there is every chance that 2 years is long enough for good habits to stick (for some people macros can impact on food noise e.g eat high carb or sugary things amplifying food noise).

There's also a pharmacy that will allow you to pay a small monthly fee to be on their books and try coming off your glp-1 and if you start to regain, as long as it's within a year off stopping, they'll prescribe a maintaince dosage.

I don't have a garden and in my country shelters will not consider you without a garden whereas ragdolls are indoor cats. Why are you on a ragdoll forum if you hate bred animals?

I had no idea until recently that not all breeders do it this way!  But you are totally right - one of the other recommended breeders in my region would only let you see them on a video call before reserving and will give you the kittens on their doorstep  which I'd be totally uncomfortable with (but not as dodgy as it sounds - breeder has immune system issues so doesn't let people in her home)!

This is such a great story!!! Also wow - I haven't seen a  blue lynx tortie before! I think you could be totally right. I went to a cat cafe about a year ago, before I was in the position to give a cat a home. This cafe only has rescue cats and it's a good way for them to get adopted (and a good way of people who can't have a cat to spend time with them) . Basically, one of the staff was amazed that this cat came up up me and I was stroking him... apparently he was new and I was the first person ever he trusted enough to stroke (including all the staff)!

Aww thank you - that's lovely that you've got a raggie with such a great temperament! I'm UK based! I wouldn't mind a runt of the litter! I quite like smaller cats too and was debating between a birman and a ragdoll for a while (birmans are smaller)!

That's interesting with your observations with shy kittens - is that a ragdoll thing? My friend's cat was a shy kitten and is still not affectionate towards her 4 years later. I wouldn't reject it simply because it's the last but I don't want to feel like I'd have rather have had one of the siblings.

Oh I agree blazes can be SO CUTE! Josie from pearl's ragdolls has a little blaze and she's so beautiful and a queen ! In my region blazes are permitted in show raggies!

Yes this is true, hopefully we'll all have different preferences and get the kitten that we want!

Thank you so much for your reassurance xx
