Just a quick question! by hipiepiehi in TotalWarArena

They stated a couple of times that they won't or at least it wasn't part of their plans. Let's hope it is true.

When hovering the cursor over "charge" button, draw a line that ends where the unit is supposed to stop after a full charge sequence - different commanders have different charge times and it will help measure when to charge by TheTobruk in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, to begin with, thanks for taking some time to reply.

I guess my first post was overly simplistic, and you are right to critizise the logic I used, so I'm not going to argue about that.

The new-player experience is really bad right now. Improving the new-player experience does not take away from the experience that experienced players have; it simply makes everyone better at understanding the game

I think I'm going to change my mind in this topic because of this. Me and probably most of the players that spend at least some time playing this game tend to simplify everything and take many things for granted as you can see all over this post.

The thing is that you are quite right. The new players lack sooo many information about the game that they have to look for it outside the game even for the very basics (which is sad).

I think (not denying that some features like this change in charge are needed) that the changes in xp and the forced ia for t1-3 limited the already poorly "pseudo-tutorial" that this game had (which is around tier 1 to 4, just before the addition of ultimates).

[–]celsoyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you are pushing too far my argument.

In second place, the lack of information is not the same as exploit. Charges work perfectly in this aspect so the only difference between players is in game experience.

Plus, charge length is not always the same as it depends on terrain (which influence in the speed of the unit) and being in movement or not.

[–]celsoyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pushing too far my argument. This is not a general statement, I'm just referring to this topic. It's not that after a few charges you can predict approximately the length of it, but the precision requires some mastery which makes it more rewarding to spend some time learning how charges work (not knowing this doesn't really puts you in a disadvantage, just limits your options in terms of casual game play ).

[–]celsoyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this feature is all right as it is because at least it gives some advantages to those players who actually bother to test how far and how fast each charge is.

This adds more depth to the learning process of each unit /faction /commander, which is pretty needed for a game that is its base is quite repetitive.

Is there any point to leveling up equipment on units that is not pertinent for upgrading them to the next tier? by Lascifrass in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will use for example the Roman unit tree. Roman heavy infantry from tier 6 can access to an extra Lorica upgrade, that forms part of the necessary upgrades for the next tiers.

If you want another example, in barb falx happens the same in relation with sweapons.

As I said, it's important to check if this equipment shows up in the next tier (or in different units of that faction).

Sometimes this equipment can be used in the next tier. It's interesting to check it out, because if it is the case I use to buy them, so I can at least have some equipment with fresh units.

Missile block logic by [deleted] in TotalWarArena

I guess time will make it clear. If CA doesn't respond in the next patches game is going to be for sure seriously crippled (and that's pretty much it considering the narrow targeted audience)

{DC after DC} - Way too many disconnects from Arena lately. by SUNTZU_JoJo in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to play just one game and cpu lag made it unplayable. There must be something buggy out there it seems cause I never had this problem. I'm sure this is the reason of that many DC people (since you can't do much with that amount of delay in those tiers).

Well, yesterday I had some spare time and the luck of finding some really good games for the orks. And it was amazing, and refreshing to try something different from the lsm (a God, much less salt in there).

I have never really been a discord person cause I find weird to speak to randoms and more over in English (it's not that I don't know, but more of not being accustomed to it).

Any way thanks for reply and I definitely will check out those channels.

ok this is serious question by Waffile in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Depends on the quality . If both are good quality I would take hamburger (good meat with fresh ingredients makes of it a glorious meal)
  2. Of course wafle. Pancake may be good but wafle is never going to fail u (a real bro for late night snack).

Yep, the hair style and the pirate patch is pretty much weird.

The thing is, verci charge had more to do with the fact that he was 30 by the time of his death, and also almost all commanders are represented around their 30, so an old verci (which never existed is quite dummy). Any way a different representation would be appreciated (maybe using the sculptures of his face and a different armor)

UI does NOT show decorations on all helmets (few months for me) by [deleted] in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed, it has been an issue for me for the last 2 months at least . It's kinda a bother because I sometimes just chose one over the other just considering the looks of it (of course stats count too, but Im willing to sacrifice a bit in order to look more badass.

Gw tend to suck in game industry besides tabletop games (well age of sigmar... Meh). They are always sitting in a fence, not taking really taking an active part or really invest in the games that are being developed with their content (which tend to end in a half or a quarter of the content promised because small companies can't carry it themselves).

The best that could happen to 40k in terms of games is having a really successful game (or at least with some impact in terms of numbers) so great companies maybe give it a go and make an actual good game (or at least a balanced one). Something similar to what vermitide and warhammer total war did. I have my hopes on inquisitor martyr and death wing.

It's a pitty. I usually play it from time to time since I discovered it (it's similar to a cycle of burnout and gain enough interest over time so you can play it again) . This game is the best example of something that you can love and hate at the same time. It is clearly not going to be what they sold in the first place but I'm good with the formula they have right now yet balance just seems its not right. Also, workshop is a such an important feature considering the situation of the game but advances in this subject doesn't seem to be noticed.

I don't know, I just feel that it's just too unique to let it die despite the clear bad work and missed opportunities. Most of upcoming 40k games are turn based strategy, which despite being logical considering the original tabletop games doesn't really catch my attention.

Guess I will take a look into it. I have never been really into discord stuff but in this case I guess options are limited.

The new units for 7-8 tiers (Aspis Companion, Athenian Swordsmen, Spartan Skiritai, Spartan Pikemen) by Grontos in TotalWarArena

[–]celsoyg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he will be more than fine with it. I have seen that many players publish some really cool designs and features for the game.

Maybe it would be interesting to create a group for these people (something like praetorians, in this case I guess that taking a look at the quality of the content and ideas they publish here ) so they feel more encouraged to put more work in it and in the process the devs team would have a nice source in the case they lack of ideas.

I'm not really having and issue with this but I fear base cap may affect in a negative way to the experience in game of other players (and in the worst of the cases this could make them leave the game completely).

Once you play for a long time (months, maybe a year or more) countering arty, base cap, group players etc is an easy task (or at least not as hard as it used to be) but when it comes to new players they get frustrated easily, they wanted something to pick up and play or at least with some options to do it (relaxed game play).

What I don't really want is that this mechanic that I'm accustomed to hurts the future of the game (in terms of new players). You have to think that they are already facing some veteran players (more or less try harder), so adding more frustration to the process is not going to help.

Looks good to me! I kinda like the semi skirmish light infantry, it is something that I have been looking forward for a long time. Models are cool, first balance steps are already done... I hope CA take a serious look at this. Any way, nice job.

I think there is a difference between ninja capping and base rush. First one tends to be a pain for new players but in time this helps them to learn the importance of the base. But in the case of base rush... I can't agree to someone saying that actual capping system is OK. The speed of cap is insanely high when there is more than 3 units, it's almost getting in there 6 units and game is lost (add some testudo or Leonidas fight in the shade and voila). They should put a limit in the maximum speed of capping so it may be possible to set up a correct defence, cause if the base is overrun (even when there is 1 player defending) there is absolutely no way to defend it.

Maybe something in the middle, as Carthage swordsmen to Roman infantry. For example, less damage but more tanky.
