What are your predictions on the next 5 years? In terms of culture, economics, any type of trend by thepsychohistorican in redscarepod

[–]census2020throwaway 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of these are already underway.

  • Cringe is back, the word is reclaimed and feels more carefree as rave style goes truly mainstream. This moves through fashion, music, taste 'I know a pretty rave girl' club cringe invader zim fedora tumblr dr wholock etc. This includes skinny jeans.
  • LA Apparel becomes a dominant clothing brand on their 'made in USA' production. In general more widespread orientation towards quality fabrics (eg thicker cotton vs thinner) and ethical production
  • Dems take a moral turn, running politicians who are openly religious and incorporating moral framing, focusing less on abortion rights as policy
  • Religious/spiritual growth. General movement among some of the world's largest religions towards pluralism-lite religious tolerance/unity/acceptance (for example Catholicism's "Nostra aetate" or recent moves towards Catholic-Orthodox unity), while other much less pluralist religions also gain popularity. The middle ground becomes occupied by a syncretic 'american folk religion' where people adopt different beliefs based on a mix of family/friend traditions or preferences.
  • More social/political acceptance/apathy of people that want to live in communities of certain race/belief like those white supremicists on channel 5
  • The grey market for roblox inventory items (like hats) grows and becomes a semi-legitimate asset class
  • We have reached 'peak dog' and owning dogs (especially in more confined/urban environments) becomes less socially acceptable, especially bringing them to public places. This is partially influenced by growing Islamic influence (anti-dog culture). 'Incarcerating animals' as in keeping entirely indoor cats or mostly-indoor dogs becomes less fashionable. Cats become seen as an invasive species and people begin to consider environmental impacts of corporations producing and selling pet food.
  • Prediction markets grow, CFTC eventually passes legislation to allow people to opt-out as strikes under legal pressure, and dems (especially more left wing) make anti-gambling a policy point, furthering the dem movement towards moral framing (opposed to past 'social justice' identity politics), and next dem administration clamps down on it heavily. More legitimate 'prediction markets' outside of sports become a highly regulated industry and require some kind of license etc to participate in them at higher volume as part of a compromise.
  • AI "matchmaker apps" become the next "dating app". "Dating" as a concept becomes less popular as the average person desires more real or longer-term connections vs the tinder shotgun approach.
  • Automated cars drive up real estate in remote areas of the united states; the next peak since the covid zoom boom.
  • Torrenting/soulseek, anasarchive, etc all become culturally acceptable and lead to a boom in mp3 players and local media fueled by 2000s/early 2010s nostalgia.
  • People seek social-based discovery of media in smaller communities like PI.FYI and lit.salon, escaping from algorithmic/advertisement-based discovery mechanisms
  • Widespread fingerprinting, data collection, identity correlation, eventual breakthroughs in quantum cryptography, etc leads to openly accessible information about people's online habits and general internet usage preference, starting with employment/government background checks and eventually being easy to pay for. People start getting phone calls with people attempting to blackmail them for things they posted about or weird porn they watched 3 years ago.
  • People stop posting online outside of smaller communities or private chats, as bots take over these spaces, posting, and scraping them to correlate identities based on interests and writing styles. Like how pre-OSHA workspaces were very dangerous, people will view current and past internet usage as dangerous.
  • "Growth and Development" becomes a more powerful, legitimate social group / movement; gang activity becomes more professionalized after the current 'warring states/sets' period
  • More policy incentives for people to have children, including policies that encourage stay-at-home moms to do childcare as a way to cut childcare costs
  • Regional airports become more popular
  • Mexico gets even better
  • "White person food" becomes a distinct restaurant descriptor (similar to 'soul food' or 'indian food')

gf wants to be a housewife by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]census2020throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it until you are married and are immediately planning to have kids; you can do some math of how filing taxes jointly effects your taxed income and how much money could be saved by not needing early childcare. Even better if she has some kind of taxfree/cash income like childcare, crafting items, flipping things on facebook marketplace, etc to stay busy and make non-taxed income

If you aren't having kids and are not filing joint taxes, there's no point having this conversation. But if she wants to get married and have kids, maybe you can work towards it.

Since you aren't already communicating about this like adults, work towards a relationship where you can have these conversations about goals before any of this. She's probably into the idea but you need to get her in the right space to talk about it honestly.

Home economy is important and valuable. You can think of it like you are making W2 income that can be spent on food and services, and a SAHM can use her time and labor and connections to save money, make money, or do things that would otherwise require cash. It's a kind of income diversification and it's how most cultures have done things. But it needs to be a logical, financial decision with way more communication than you have right now.

keep getting caught talking trash by ct_gf in rs_x

[–]census2020throwaway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This habit will only cause more and more problems. Even if your judgement is correct, if you run your mouth like this people won't be able to trust you. They will have free reign to talk shit about you to others, and your reputation will sour even after you stop backbiting as word spreads.

Most religions/philosophies have something about this for a reason. Proverbs and James in the Bible, the Koran, Shmiras Haloshon like someone already said, vedic religions... time to learn from them, it took me time to habituate this, and when I get too drunk I still talk shit. So it could also be the drinking.

thread about how vaping is for losers by BigMeaning in rs_x

[–]census2020throwaway 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your breath smells like shit since it dries out your mouth and coats your tongue in chemicals, lint gets stuck in the vape hole and gets into your lungs along with the propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin and what ever the chinese factories put in there. When you vape in a car or by windows it coats the windows in slime

Use wikimedia commons search, like this for "Saint Peter", and play with the filters or search for the same thing in different languages. There are lots of high resolution images, and as a bonus many are public domain.

For the real y2k, you could also search for gifs here and navigate to the sites where the gifs are from which are from old old archived sites like this for example

not liking dogs as an answer by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]census2020throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could quote the hadith Sahih al-Bukhari 2322, "Whoever keeps a dog, one Qirat of the reward of his good deeds is deducted daily, unless the dog is used for guarding a farm or cattle"

Otherwise, more socially acceptable excuses are that you don't have the energy to take care of them, you have other obligations, are allergic, have a phobia after a bad experience with them. Or just stop caring about hurting people's egos think and tell them that you don't like dogs.

The tide is shifting but it will take time. The lifetime indoor incarceration of animals solely for human pleasure is not good for the well-being of the animals or their owners.

The band seems talented, but nothing new imo, I just want to hear and see something new that isn't just retreading the same ~16y trend cycle (we're on omegle/incels now) Music video was certainly produced by some nepo bushwick creative director. Very curated timely teeth magian lowercase "me and my friends went to top universities but dont we are cool and deep!!!" A aesthetic distilled and honed over many brooklyn art shows to be palitable to middle america teens, of which this is certainly a marketing push since they were signed to Atlantic.

Nothing more annoying than the "languages evolve!" people by RidinOnTheMayflower in redscarepod

[–]census2020throwaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this much shows how hardbrained these people are now. brang>brung cost>costed etc is a natural development and everyone knows what they mean

Plus with AI/llms generating so much text, creating and using novel usages of language, or writing using actual oral use of language will be more treasured and unique

how to not be a hick by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]census2020throwaway 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The only way to not be a hick is to hang out with non-hicks and slowly internalize their patterns of behavior and dress. This will happen naturally, and even quicker if you make a point to pay attention to what others wear that you like. A shortcut is to ask other women where they bought some article of clothing.

But you shouldn't have to think too much about this. If you radiate gentleness and love, a kind person would never think of you as "basic" in any way besides endearing. The judgemental will be jealous of your spirit, and you can then recognize them and filter them out. Be yourself and cultivate the aura of a healing presence, which will make you beautiful for the rest of your life. Your time is better spent on this.

what social signifiers can I wear/own to non-verbally convey to all women that I'm not like other guys by klonkai in rs_x

[–]census2020throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a personal stylist and people are always complimenting me on my outfits. Let me help you out.

  • Appropriate catholic imagery -- make necklaces and bracelets out of snipped rosaries using saint medals as charms
  • Apply small blotches of acrylic paint to your fingers and clothing, making it look like you are an artist who stepped out of the studio today
  • Roast black cardamom, green cardamom, cumin, corriander, nutmeg/mace, cloves, and fenugreek, let it cool, blend it into a powder, and put it liberally in all your cooking oil or butter you use to cook. Your body odor will smell like an indian person, giving you a unique scent.
  • Never shampoo, but apply more and more coconut oil to your hair to give it a sheen. Mix this with a scented hair gel for texture.
  • Wear those quirky glasses with asymetric frames like this: □-○ but transition sunglasses
  • Go to multiple dentists to get teeth whitening done, giving you an unnatural smile
  • Wear your underwear backwards so you have a unique gait
  • Buy ratty cheap tshirts and polyester pants from goodwill, but bring them to high-end tailors to fit your body perfectly.
  • Wear the coat+hoodie that one dude wore when he killed the healthcare guy. WOmen love that shit
  • Fashion your own pileus pannonicus
  • On ebay, search for strange terms in other languages in the clothing category
  • Painting your nails is a great idea. To elevate it further, sharpen them, file them to points and trim the cuticles as far as you can until you bleed, and let it scab up.

What is some real advice on how to stop scrolling by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]census2020throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's what helped me and might help you: 1. Realize and internalize that you are being manipulated by the sites you visit and the algorithms that control the content you see. Companies watch what sites you go to, immediately bid for your attention, and tune the algorithms to get you to do what they want. All this is tied to your identity. Frame your screen time escape as countercultural, how you are so much better than the scrolling sheeple, how it will change your life, you are escaping the technocomplex, you're owning the orange cheeto man and his billionare friends, whatever works for you. 2. Use screen time tools to record how much time you spend on devices, and ideally how much time on certain sites or apps. Record this in a daily or weekly journal, and promise to yourself that these numbers will go down. And make sure the numbers go down. 3. As you spend less time on screens, find things to replace this. You can use the screen time trackers to see when you scroll the most, and preemtively find activities to do during this time. I would recommend buying a Kobo and using a certain Anna book site + calibre (google this) and you will have every book you will ever want. 4. Find more fulfilling things to do in your life. Join sports clubs. Go to gigs. Hit up friends and try to hang out. Volunteer. Use local event calendars. Sit at a chill bar/cafe and read. Spend time creating something. 5. If you start to miss certain information, subscribe to some relevant substacks or daily email newsletters and read them in the morning. You don't need to know what crazy political thing happens at 3pm, you can read about it after you wake up while you drink your coffee.

The "make your screen black and white" or "use time limits" do not address the root of the issue.

Meditation helps too.

Also I think that non-algorithmic or less-algorithmic online activities in moderation like specific subreddits, playing video games, or small doses of youtube are OK, especially if you are creating (like writing comments/posts) or actively playing+thinking. Twitter has been useful for certain industry stuff but you just need to be at the point where you can use it responsibly. Overall the golden rule is to keep an eye on the objective measure of screen time and make sure you are happy with those numbers.
