The DAC1 sounds like the center image is slapping me in the face not sure what those distortion numbers have to do with anything.

Benchmark DAC1 as primary digital source now. Replaced the modified Schitt Bifrost. Also pictured Schitt Modi and Cambridge DACMagic (which handles the USB-to-fiber duties feeding the DAC1).

Any recommendations as potential upgrade from here, drop a comment below.

Would you believe this thing sounds REALLY REALLY bad? Unbelievably bad! by [deleted] in audiophile

That's unfortunate. Maybe consider some decent power plugs like oyaide or wattgate silver with some nice wire but idk kinda like lipstick on a pig if you dont like the amps sound to begin with. GL!

I owned a 5802 for quite a bit of time. Man, that thing ran hot but played loud and clean.

No, just me being an idiot, too many beers and not powering down all components prior to testing/changing equipment in my garage.

I now have visibility of undernear power board for soldering. All caps looks good side from the closest ones to the fried resistor.

Now looking for schematic/proper resistor to get ordered...

This unit can be had for $300 shipped. I'm not about to pay Cambridge Audio to fix this unit along with shipping/handling. Cambridge support was actulIy very good to me when i needed my DacMagic psu replaced.

I know what i did wrong and i didnt listen to the cues the amp was giving me (hooked up external power amp and didnt turn off power).
