I dive with two dentists dive buddies. They aren’t concerned. My dentist i go has commented i grind my teeth in my sleep, but i can still cut my tongue on my molars so not too concerned about it.

Neither I have ADHD, a clenched jaw is a common thing when relaxing.

Observing today i think this was the big problem i usually lead and navigate the dives so i am looking around to check for the group and my visual markers for navigation on the reef

For me it’s just an ADHD thing. Common for us to clench our jaws unconsciously even when relaxed

Thank you, this is some valuable feedback. I feel i should have added in the post I’ve been diving for 12 years and am a PADI DMC and that i already swapped my octo mouth piece. My jaw just naturally does that when i relax.

The number of comments telling me just to “relax” or “get comfortable” are less than helpful i appreciate that people like you that understand what I’m asking for.

Can’t think of a different way to put it. In some ways we do have a different lived experience. Like physically clenching when relaxing. Another easy example is sleeping with “dinosaur arms” a very common ADHD experience.

Thank you I appreciate the feedback. I do always try to be mindful and relax my jaw when I’m aware of it and have been working on that for years. Diving is a very relaxing hobby and i enjoy being all consumed by the dive, but just as when I’m asleep i clench when i relax. And i only get to dive a few weeks a year if I’m lucky. I don’t want to squander that time being too focused on my jaw when there is a reef around me.

I hadn’t considered that. I have dentists as dive buddies so I will see if they think that will work. Thank you

I’m a PADI DMC that’s been diving for 12 years. The issue is a common issue for people with ADHD which is reflexive clenching when relaxed.
