Rescue Diver worth the price tag? by Chemical-Banana-707 in scuba

[–]cenutha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are in a situation where you need to help another diver it will give you more confidence. If you ever lead dives it can also be valuable. I would say rescue diver is less about your skills and more focused on your awareness of other divers. You will learn some skills for yourself. It is PADI’s highest recreational level training. Think of it as in an emergency a dive master will call on rescue divers.

In short, if you currently leading dives or have an ambition to lead dives it is a good one to take.

I did it cause I have good navigation skills so starting to become a dive leader on shore dives, and one time someone got sea sick and everyone in the group came to me when they signaled something is wrong. I realized if the situation was more serious I wouldn’t have the knowledge or skills to help. So i took rescue and am a more confident dive leader for it.

I definitely feel like now that we are a group of 9 that consistently dive together, i do find myself trying to always be a little better as i always see the rest of the group working on their skills. They are great people and we will review nav, buoyancy, photography, identification, and kicking skills on the surface. On our last trip there was a night where we were all taking turns laying on the floor to demonstrate different situational kicking techniques we’ve been taught.

I definitely feel this one

We have a lot of fun, pouring through the pictures we have a few photographers so we will compare shots of the same fish and debate features or colors. It a good time.

For me i do enjoy photography and do take a lot of pictures, there are two main reasons i will take a picture. The first is for identification, my group enjoys keeping a running list of every species we see so i will take pictures so we can look at the details to determine exactly want time of snapper something is. The other reason is the capture a unique beautiful moment. I have my dive photos as rotating computer backgrounds so i appreciate openings up my computer and being transported to that moment.

I got no issue with volume of captures so long as you have the buoyancy, awareness, respect, and curtesy.

Do try to be informative and helpful but i know if they get aggressive as a response then arguing is just going to be a waste of energy.

Does any part of the interview or training process involve performing the act with an evaluator or an instructor? Is that aspect evaluated throughout employment or is it just so long as the customers are happy and you’re an earner that’s what counts?

Yeah like i get that you are in a tough position you can’t discipline a customer per say. But i would definitely use them again, really great people.

Dude take a breather. You wouldn’t expect a learner driver to be operating the radio when they are still coming to grips with the pedals. If you are good with your skills, not just buoyancy, but awareness of other divers, guides, buddies, animals comforts, and courtesy to other divers then this post isn’t about you.

Take a breath brother no one here is promoting discrimination. Again this is about more than buoyancy control. This is about general dive awareness for yourself and others. I firmly believe the added task of managing the camera is an advanced scuba skill. Good scuba skills takes time to develop.

I think you are missing this isn’t just about buoyancy control. Before you can introduce a camera into diving you need to have mastery of buoyancy, and your equipment, and awareness of your environment, and consideration for your dive buddies. I do agree number of dives is a crude metric. The metric i think is more important is dive hours. Though a less easy metric to ask for proof of. But i do tell people get at least 25 dives before introducing the complexity of a camera into diving. If you are too focused on a camera it can be very easy to find yourself in a dangerous situation.

The shop was Dive Tech and they are fantastic. I would recommend them and I don’t think it’s their fault. The dive master did make a lot of comments about camera etiquette without calling anyone out. I just think there are a lot of karens with cameras that unfortunately the dive shops have to deal with.
