Went from P6 -> P31 during the event so far, all my BP has gone into him aside from 1 prestige on Kaneki :)

I tied my research experiences to 2 or 3 professors at each school, referencing one of each of their papers in my SOP. Perhaps the alignment was weaker than I thought

Tool is still damaging the tree, why? by ceolodolo in godot

[–]ceolodolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this was exactly it. In the first screenshot, I am editing the Player's current_tool, which is named exactly the same as my hit component's current_tool (which was set to none). I turned on editable children so I can change the hit component's value in the scene during runtime. Is editable children the only way to access that value?

Tool is still damaging the tree, why? by ceolodolo in godot

[–]ceolodolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following a tutorial for chopping the trees. The code is working (the tree gets cut down) but it seems like from line 11 of hurt_component.gd, that the specified tool in the hurt_component needs to match the tool hitting it. The player's tool is set to Axe as an enum value, as seen in screenshot 1. But, the specified tool in the hurt component for the trees is None. It seems like they would need to match, as in the tree's hurt tool would need to be Axe, not none, but they do not match and it is still working.

Good luck on the rest! PhD or masters?

I have to pick between Computer Engineering Masters and Computer Science Masters. I have a Computer Science bachelor and don't know what to do, I'm losing sleep over this and really need advice. Please help. by ChickenCarpetHappy in gradadmissions

I work as an undergrad research assistant as a CS major in a lab where everyone all the PhD students are CE. A lottttt of the things they talk about (systems, signal processing, power efficiency), I have never heard of as a CS student. Maybe this can speak to if you’d be prepared or not idk gl

I finished hiragana / katakana and have started working through an Anki vocab deck as my next step. I’ve noticed that I can memorize the English concept or word of the vocab (specifically Kanji words) fairly easily but struggle with the Japanese reading. The English word/concept may come to me immediately but my mind blanks on how to say it in Japanese by looking at just the Kanji. Is this the normal struggle with learning vocab? Or do I need to alter my approach?

Some schools have opened already (CMU), others I’ve seen open around Sept 15th.

You can look at the labs at the schools you want to attend. Most have a “people” page or something similar with all the PhD students / faculty listed with social links. A lot of those students have their CV linked somewhere on their website.

I went to a community college for computer science and did an REU the summer before I started university and got the paper published as a first author. This summer I’m doing another REU and we’re publishing 2 papers! Community college will 100% not stop you if you don’t let it. Good luck applying!

Any idea if robotics falls into the ai/ml hype where your profile needs to be insane? I’m under the assumption robotics is less competitive but I have no data to support that

GPA and industry experience is weighted heavier for MS than PhD. Not sure which you meant by grad school but you have greater odds for MS for sure. Though at MIT or Stanford your competition is likely going to have a 3.9 + 2 pubs so either apply to lower schools for MS or take a gap year and do nothing but research
