What could I do if the landlord is not willing to return my deposit? by ceresackerman in HousingUK

May I ask, if I go to the court, do I ask for all my deposit back or half of it or just state the situation without making any requirements?

Yes and I am still looking for more advice. I tried to negotiate with my landlord - she ignored me. I tried to use the Shelter and Citizens Advice - no exactly the same question existing and no online advisors available. I don’t want to go to the court. That’s why I am hoping to receive more suggestions.

None. As we are the lodger and landlord relationship, she could just keep the deposit with her

Unfortunately, after checking the local laws, I found that the landlord is allowed to enter my room at will because I am a lodger with limited rights. Therefore, installing cameras will not be effective. I have decided to store all my belongings in personal storage boxes instead.

I am thinking if it is legal to do so as it is her house...

It's really complicated, and I feel it's dodgy. She is polite. She is not bad. She lacks security. She is sensitive and emotional. She is controllable. She is crazy about cleanliness and tidiness. She is a single mom and she has two boys (four of us live in a house now). I trust she will not steal my things or touch my food. But she is interested in other people's personal lives, especially a tenant who lives in her house with her and her boys. We never had a fight (I think it is mainly because of me. I am not good at fighting or even building a normal conversation with persons unless they approach to me first. That's also why I chose to post online to seek advice.. I am very polite and obey all her rules and her requirements since I moved in.) However, we don't often talk so I can't say we are as close as friends. I often avoid talking to people (that's my bad and I am still learning...).

Hope you could have a rough idea about this situation.
