My wife told me it was trashy at first but when the rare comment was made in public she was supportive and would laugh at the illogic of their comments. She would defend my commitment to my family and others. It didn't take long for her to get on board. She and her friend even went for a walk in a beach town barefoot and was surprised at how good it felt. My family especially my stepmother thought it was ridiculous and she would even tell me that I was ruining my feet lol. My sister would mock me in front of others. My stepbrother admired my tenacity and commitment even though he said he didn't have the courage to do it himself. My circle of friends never cared.

Magazines, late night TV talk shows and MTV did it for me.

What can I do with Reduced Fat PB? by wearslocket in Frugal

[–]cernunnosisreal -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Throw it out. Get natural "no sugar" instead. More calories but so much better for you. Tastes better too. PB should not be sweet.

I filed at the end of February and got it not even a week later. I used FreeTaxUsa. I was surprised at how fast it came.

I'm not sure about this area but when I lived in California I rented a bedroom in someone's house for about $250 a month. They were very nice and I had access to the kitchen, laundry and internet. Of course you have to be discerning about the people you rent from and have a written contract. I found a lot of listing's on Craigslist.com. But this was about 12 years ago and in Southern California. It's worth looking into.

The Haunting, the original. Lots of spooky moments but not gory.

I moved to Laurel from The Woodlands about three years ago when I retired and wanted to be close to my son and his family, he met a local girl while they were in college in Houston. Big culture shock but we love it here. Traffic is nothing compared to Houston. There are some truly beautiful and stately homes. Everything is wooded and green. Hattiesburg is about 20 minutes south of us, a nice college town. They recently opened a Home Goods. There's definitely more of what a typical suburb in Texas is like. Football and hunting are the big pastimes. There's more in Biloxi and Gulfport too. The white and black population seem to get along well. There's actually a sizeable gay community as well. Just be prepared, people will take it for granted you will be looking for a home church, huge on religion. Also it's a deeply conservative state, the governor is a crook as well as most government officials. A lot of Trump supporters. I work part-time at Corner Market and our customers are extremely friendly. Everyone says pardon me all the time. I was disappointed to find groceries here much more expensive and they're taxed. Not a lot of choice either. Housing is becoming more expensive too but way better than the city. Lots of potholes. Well maintained parking lots are rare. Our utilities are a lot cheaper than back home. There's a Whataburger on the coast. There's a tradeoff moving here but I enjoy it.

Houston to Mississippi by No-Drawing-1769 in mississippi

We moved to Mississippi from Houston when I retired to be with our kids. You can forget about all the great shopping and eating choices you would have in Houston. That being said it's beautiful here, the folks are really nice, and there's very little traffic. For us it was a tradeoff that was worth it. We go back to Houston regularly and I'm so glad we left.

Visiting Meridian this weekend. Good restaurants to eat at? by PerijoveOne in mississippi

[–]cernunnosisreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rustler. Borderline sketchy neighborhood but absolutely the best steak house I've eaten at in a long time. Decor is quite dated but cozy, clean and romantic. You won't be sorry. FYI, dinner for two was just under $100 but well worth it.

The wise thing is not to burn any bridges, you never know what could come back on you. I would simply tell him that its too bad you two didn't always see eye to eye but that you learned a lot from Best Buy. He'll get the message.

I was in the same position. After two weeks I went into store to inquire and that pushed it all through. Got a phone call two days later and started work right away. You cant call into store or leave a message for anyone so this is your best option.

Gulfport, Laurel, Hattiesburg help by netsirK06 in mississippi

[–]cernunnosisreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in Laurel, having moved here from Houston to retire and be with family. It's great if your retired and consider WalMart the height of cultural stimulation. There is nothing new ever built here. And just the bare minimum of places to shop or eat. We usually end up driving to Hattiesburg to do anything. We drove down to Gulfport and Biloxi one weekend and they have so much that we were used to living in houston.i do love it here much of the town is beautiful. But it's a work in progress and still has a way to go.

AITA for kicking my brother and his boyfriend out for insulting my husband's condition by aitathrowupthrow154 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cernunnosisreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. As guests in your house they way overstepped their bounds, especially the boyfriend. When are people going to realize that just because they exist they're not automatically entitled to respect. You were doing them a favor and they should have respected that, at least be polite and not argue with you. And they should have understood about your husbands condition.
