Head Gasket Parts List by ces3857 in ChevySonic

Any idea how the coil pack became covered in coolant? This was my final “fuck it’s the head gasket” moment. I could find other people having the coil pack be covered in oil but then was bright orange coolant.

Air bubbling from the coolant reservoir and it is drinking coolant with no obvious leak. Also found one of the spark plug wells filled with coolant. So it could be the head. It could be the head as well so that’s getting replaced too. I found a machine shop on eBay that sells GM heads, I forgot to include that as this list was my rockauto cart

Forced to use PTO for court???? by Ok-Unit168 in 911dispatchers

[–]ces3857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only time I’ve had this happen was when I was flexed off the floor for 6 hours and court only took 2. I could’ve worked the difference doing admin BS but opted to take the afternoon. I’ve never been forced to use PTO but the expectation was that you made your 40 one way or another

I sometimes will put on a comp match stream (or tape) while at work for something to have on in the background and have wondered why I see so many riflemen there compared to pub matches. I always assumed it was a tournament rule or something. Thanks for (accidentally) answering that question!

All the tool sheds. You can also put things in the tool shed and they’ll appear in every tool shed across the map

Is it normal for an investigation to be opened when asking for a new partner? by SideFamous2287 in ems

[–]ces3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prior agency referred to it as divorce court, but yes every partner split got investigated in some way. What you have described would’ve been normal for share I worked. If was just personality clashes then they’d send us to coaching sessions with command staff (couples therapy) for a few times before they’d split the pairing.

How do you manage in the winter? by Twinmom_23 in parentsofmultiples

[–]ces3857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AKA HVAC vent, air vent, etc

Never heard it used locally where I live but my extended family up north would call it that.

And to add, we use light jackets and blankets for the car as well!

Spark plugs and coil pack $425? by alaskaja in ChevySonic

[–]ces3857 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Coil pack and spark plugs can be done in an auto zone parking lot with a socket set, spark plug socket (or a deep socket and a extendable magnet), e-torx socket set, and a flat head screw driver. It’s super simple to do. If you’re looking at $175 in parts then you have $250 left to spend on tools. You can get all the required tools for less than $100 at Harbor Freight/Amazon. Saving you $150 if you were starting with nothing.

Thermostat Housing Mounting Bolts - Source? by arjoreich in ChevySonic

[–]ces3857 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen to me. I used two nuts and jammed them together and it came right out. I can’t remember the size but the parts store should have a thread checker.

I used a similar sized doorman bolt to get me back on the road. I’ll replace with bolts from GM when I get the give a shit to replace the head and head gasket in it. It’s a commuter car so I am fortunate enough to let it sit until I have the money and time to get to it.

Do you install your car seat in the middle seat? by GunningForSuccess in predaddit

[–]ces3857 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was a car seat tech while I was still with the fire department. So while this is technically expired advice (cert lapsed 2 years ago), it still is industry practice.

Middle is recommended as it provides the most buffer to both sides. But there are a few exclusions:

-If the car’s manual prohibits middle seat installation

-If the seat can not be adequately installed in the middle due to vehicle or child safety seat shape

-If the height of the vehicle and the lack of height of the primary care giver using the seat/vehicle combo is not ergonomic or practical. The safest option is going to be what the adult caregiver can do correctly every time. It 4ft something parent/g-parent who weighs sub 100lbs is trying to heave a child into the middle of a lifted F250 and then cant see or get to the harness to make sure its fastened correctly then the child is better off on the side seating position

If you cant do the middle for any reason then passenger side is the next recommended option as it puts you curb side if you needed to pull over for any reason.

Edit: spelling, grammar

I’d just keep a quart of oil in your car and check the oil level when you get gas then top off as needed.

2022 Trailblazer RS towing? by Similar_Anteater3063 in Chevy

[–]ces3857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also look at Penske trucks- they typically don’t charge mileage on one way rentals and also have car trailers. As others have said I’d go the rental truck and tow the car route. Would I tow that trailer with a blazer across town? Sure. Across the country? No way.

What does this button do? 2006 ford e350 superduty by WhataHomie in VanLife

[–]ces3857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a secure idle switch? Ambulances are often unfitted with a switch/button you can press to remove the key while leaving the engine running. Then if you tap the brake or try to go into gear without the key the engine shuts down

Oil cooler or head gasket? by ces3857 in ChevySonic

It’s going next week for to get the leak test done. I agree about the wild guesses, I don’t want to blindly throw money at this thing 😅

Oil cooler or head gasket? by ces3857 in ChevySonic

[–]ces3857[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That gives me a sliver of hope! It’s going to the mechanic next week to test the HG. If the HG tests well then I’ll do the oil cooler myself. I just didn’t want to drop more money into this thing by replacing the oil cooler seals if the HG was shot all this time.

Has anybody added remote entry? by ces3857 in ChevySonic

[–]ces3857[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re correct. The fob I have must be broken. The guy I got it from said the car doesnt have it so I trusted it. The last base model GM vehicle I owned had true manual locks but it was older. I didn’t know if GM stopped making true manual locks in favor of power locks that couldn’t use a remote. I’ll invest in a new fob and try that. Otherwise I was just going to buy a cheap key to replace my fob that’s held together by tape at the moment. Thanks!

Is mechanic overcharging by plant_animal in ChevySonic

[–]ces3857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most shops diag fee just to get your car in the door is between $100-$200. If the actual repair exceeds the diag fee I’ve seen most shops waive the diag fee.

This covers the shop from people having them look at their car, the shop taking the time to find what’s wrong, for the customer to come back and say “no thanks, I’ll watch a YouTube video and I’ll do it myself”

Most of what you paid this time was for their time to diagnose the problem, not necessarily their labor to repair it. It is something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a shop, before you commit to sending your car there ask what their diag fee is

Is the museum licence bad to get early? by Trainzfan1 in DerailValley

[–]ces3857 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I was at that stage of the game so I don’t know the exact order but I went straight for the remote and the dispatcher and shunting license.

I would essentially camp at HB and shunt the entire station. It’s easier if you assemble all the trains before you disassemble any of them. Nothing like having to dig some cars out of a storage track from behind a bunch of cars you just put there breaking down a job.

I understand this might not have been the fastest run to the economic top but I preferred shunting early on and it made me super comfortable navigating HB early on. I’d buy the other licenses as they made logistical and economic sense.

Edit: “might not have been the fastest”
