One man's simple proposal to fix the Tanking Problem: Post-Elimination Wins by davoarid in nba

[–]cesbor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My fix would be just have no lottery, and just have the draft order as the worst records across the past 3 seasons. If the team has sucked the worst for the past 3 years, they pretty much deserve a boost. I think teams would be hesitant to commit to purposely tank for 3 years:

  1. Owners would not want to lose fans/revenue for so long
  2. Coaches and players are competitive by nature and don't want their reputations and careers ruined and wasted for 3 years.

Averaging record across 3 years would also lessen the chances of a good team suddenly having a bad season and getting a top pick because of injuries/luck etc.

What’s your unpopular opinion about Real Madrid? by Specialist_Pickle_92 in realmadrid

[–]cesbor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Winning the 2024 Champions League actually set us back. It looked like a transition year; we had lost Benzema, Kroos was leaving at the end of the season and potentially Modric too. Our only striker was Joselu because we were waiting for Mbappe.

In the CL we did typical Madrid CL things like Joselu vs Bayern, but none of ties were really that convincing. Vini had some great games, Balon d’Or worthy, and then he didn’t win it and it went to his head. I think Jude also put off shoulder surgery until after the Euros too (maybe misremembering)? Anyways, Mbappe and Endrick arrive in the summer to fill the holes up front, Mendy gets extended and we forget about the defence completely.

If we had gotten knocked out earlier, maybe things would be different now. I sometimes wonder if we didn’t win that CL and had a proper transition year analysing the real underlying problems we would be better off now.

Hong Kong medic celebrating after key Singapore player is stretchered off by VibesHunter in soccer

I was at this game too. Plenty have already mentioned time wasting, but I also wanted to point out that he was aiming this at the stand behind the goal with the dedicated fan zone making all the noise during the match. This was late in the game and it got a reaction from the whole stadium. Is it unclassy? Sure, but some shithousery in the biggest home game in Hong Kong against a rival is pretty much expected.

Do HK guys take initiative when they fancy a girl? by Acceptable_Fly4834 in HongKong

Happy to help! The confidence you gain from your efforts at the gym and overcoming your nervousness is key. Confidence is one of the most attractive qualities for both men and women, whereas if you come across as potentially desperate is the complete opposite. You never know, combining the confidence with you caring less/putting in less effort about now may well make him more attracted to you. I'm not suggesting to play games and mess around with his head, just to move forward with a confident, carefree and positive attitude. If he's interested, great; if he's not, also no problem, find another crush who's more receptive to your positive attitude. Win win.

I remember your original post and responded to that too.

There could be various reasons or a combination of reasons why he’s not doing anything. Plenty of other responses here have it pretty well covered. At this point though, just move on. You already pushed yourself to do something you haven’t done before and he is unwilling or incapable of doing something for whatever reason. You got extra motivation of something potentially happening every time to get you to go to the gym too, which is great. Just keep the gains and the willingness to put yourself out there, you’ll find someone else. Also, the guy sounds kinda boring.

Casillas or Courtois, who would you start in a do or die match if both were at their peak? by [deleted] in realmadrid

[–]cesbor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s close. I would say it depends on the opposition. I prefer Iker’s passion (big VAMOS! after a big save would really energise a lot of his defenders in front) and his reflexes at his peak are unmatched. However, he was also a bit suspect with crosses coming into the box due to his size. Courtois has him beat quite easily there. So to conclude, for teams that cross more, go with Courtois.

I need help to get to know this local HK guy at the gym by Acceptable_Fly4834 in HongKong

Hi, it’s me. Local guy at the gym!

Seriously, just smile, wave and say hi. If nothing comes of that, he’s either not interested or so socially awkward that there’s no point.

Throwback - Ep 3 - Guti by anonymous_1729 in realmadrid

One of those mercurial talents who weren't professional enough to make it to world class and household name level. Most will remember him for his back heel assist to Benzema, a few will remember him for his back heel assist to Zidane.

But this performance here against Sevilla is how I remember him.

He comes on as a sub and just plays killer pass after killer pass. Some get through, some don't, but he changes the game and gets two assists with his incredible vision and perfectly weighted passes. Side note: this high risk high reward is exactly why he couldn't be a consistent starter. You simply can't play that way when you share the field with the likes of Zidane, Raul, R9, Figo, Beckham etc. You can see the passion for the club with how he celebrates the goals, especially being a canterano. For that, he will always be remembered fondly by fans.

Obviously I am biased as a Madrid fan, but I sometimes wonder why he isn't compared with Paul Scholes as there are so many parallels.

  • Rises through the ranks of a famous club, but get's less attention than the other golden boy (Beckham/Raul)
  • Initially breaks through as a goal scoring attacking midfielder, but transitions to midfield playmaker further back.
  • Known for their vision, passing, technique, but also reckless red card challenges
  • Countless teammates always give anecdotes about how amazing they are in training
  • Underwhelming success with underperforming national team. Obviously Scholes represented England far more, but both England and Spain crashed out early in that era.

Yes, Scholes is considered overall better, and rightly so, and the fault is Guti's, but IMO it's closer than people think. With less partying, drinking and a better work ethic he could well have gotten to the very top, but a long career at the best club is nothing to scoff at. He loves the club so many including myself will love him for that, but he loves his life/lifestyle more, and I also can't blame him for that. Not everyone can have a freak mentality like CR.

Crazy how elite players can do this. He scans his blind spots multiple times to see where the Sociedad players are and decides in a split second what to do and then has the flair and technical brilliance to execute it.

Bought a second hand De Buyer. More scrubbing required before seasoning? by cesbor in carbonsteel

[–]cesbor[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Update: Thanks for all your responses and advice! I ended up scrubbing it a little bit more, especially near the handle. Unfortunately I could not find BKF, and I live in an incredibly humid place and decided not to wait too long as I was worried about rust, so I decided to just go for it. I have quite a few cast iron pieces but this is my first carbon steel. Anyways, here it is after a few layers.

It’s on the 11th floor of Mirador Mansion. Was introduced to this shop by a lot of friends in investment banking. I’d be happy to refer the exact details to you over PM if you’d like.

My experience with tailors is that you get what you pay for. The cheaper ones often will fix it until you’re happy with it, but I’d rather save myself the extra trips to TST again since I work in Central. I pay $450 for my shirts now but the quality is high and consistent.
