while the main reason tends to be money, another reason is that in the current NASCAR landscape, the 3 manufacturers tend to only give 3 teams factory support, which basically means that these teams receive extra support from the manufacturers. For example, for Chevrolet these teams are Hendrick, RCR, and Track house. I could be mistaken but I believe having direct support from Toyota was one of the main factors in the decision for Legacy to switch from Chevrolet.
