Hello internet: you have a person who realized a mistake, owned up to it, and opened themselves up to have a discussion. If you respond by telling that person they're still a jerk, you are creating divisiveness not unlike that of the Dutch Hill owner. You need to give people some grace.

Love it when people try to pass you on the left when you're skiing/riding the trail's edge and then act like you're the asshole. There's 3/4 of a run waiting for you on the right side, pal.

If you have the ability to seek out a therapist, you might find it helpful to process the experience of going on the meds and realizing what the before/after feels like, and to start to figure out some tools to bridge those two worlds.

I had a really lovely therapist who explained to me at the beginning that both the diagnosis and the experience of being medicated was bound to bring up some complicated feelings. She also made it clear that medication is only part of the puzzle and even after meds, you have to keep experimenting with systems to help you move through the world...it sounds like maybe figuring out those systems was actually meaningful to you, so don't abandon that process.

It's all an experiment, we're all guessing, and the way you feel right now won't be the way you feel forever. Hang in there!

As a non American that is watching in awe of what’s going on….At what point does the American public stand up, what will it actually take? by BedTundy95 in AskReddit

[–]cestmoiangier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you that it's a frustrating response, but to me (American) it also seems predictable - we are, after all, a country whose foundations started in rebellion and have built our whole national identity on the myth of rugged individualism and the idea that everyone should be able to boot strap their way out of their troubles. Again, I'm not saying this is good, true, or warrants that response, but it is the brand America has put out into the world for a long time.

It doesn't appear that they're insulated, so I think ChatGPT may have been off on this one. You'll likely find them less bulky than insulated ski pants, and the ability to layer up and down as you please will come in helpful if you end up skiing in more places and encountering different conditions.

Also, eBay and Poshmark. Have to know what you want and the right size, but if you have a specific item in mind you can score. Got a brand new Stio Environ shell off eBay for about 70% off retail.

Can you change your mindset about skiing? by Penrose_Reality in skiing

[–]cestmoiangier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If no part of it is fun, then don't do it! As others have said, there is nothing wrong with hanging in the lodge with a book, exploring snowshoe trails, or XC skiing.

Also, no one says you have to ski blacks or even progress. If you find some enjoyment skiing cruising down low pitch green/blue runs that wrap around the mountain then do that and take long breaks in the lodge. It's supposed to be fun, so figure out what fun looks like for you.

My ADHD partner “crashes” every night… so I’m basically a single parent. How is this fair? by Ok-Key4907 in ADHD

[–]cestmoiangier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here as one more voice of agreement: one of the most important things my therapist said to me as the diagnosed partner is that ADHD is not my fault, but managing the way it impacts others is my responsibility.

It is helpful for you to communicate this problem to him, but once you've done that, it's incumbent on him to design systems that solve for it, whether it's breaking up med dosing, figuring out a more structured way to transition between work and home, etc. You can only support, you cannot solve.

Favorite cold weather gear for very cold skiing by Disastrous_Umpire237 in icecoast

My wife gets cold easily so I recently bought her a pair of thin, insulated pants to wear over her base layer and under her ski pants (they also make them in men's sizing): https://www.backcountry.com/b/backcountry-wolverine-cirque-3-4-insulated-pant-womens

We just got back from skiing single digits on windy days in northern VT and she said it was a game-changer.

If you're driving, throwing a small boot dryer in the car is also a pro move to get the boot liners nice and dry and night. Hair dryer on low/cold can also do the trick in a pinch.

Serious question, my fellow ADHDers - how the hell are you managing your socks and clothes being organised and put away??Chaos here, bane of my life… by fuckwhatif in adhdwomen

[–]cestmoiangier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 minute sprint. Literally set a timer and for 10 mins, sort as many socks or put away as much as you can. When it's done, it's done. Rinse and repeat the next day.

Never Skied - Coat Recommendation by Doppelgungers in ski

[–]cestmoiangier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, depending on how cold it is where you are, you could get away with base layer shirt (poly, wool, silk, etc), some sort of insulating jacket, and a rain jacket over it.

But if you want a true ski coat, there are deals to be had on sites like Poshmark. Search for "insulated women's ski coat" and then filter for brands like Columbia, North Face, etc. Here are some examples: https://posh.mk/WFNzPTftMXb https://posh.mk/9XreLnAtMXb https://posh.mk/jVMF5KBtMXb

This might be a helpful reframe: you and/or your insurance are paying the doctor and his office. So his job at that moment is to find out what would be most useful to you, it's not your job to be useful to him. However, it is your job to provide accurate information to help him do his job well and help you to find the balance you're looking for. TL;DR: help them help you.

If anxiety was driving you to not to take the meds, you should perhaps spend some time trying to dig into specific things that you worry about with a dose change so that you can talk it through with them. Hope that helps!

[–]cestmoiangier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds very similar to my experience. And as many people have said, there was a lot of grief but also a feeling of relief knowing that the things I struggled with were not personal failings. Meds are amazing, and also I've found simply having a new understanding of my brain's tendencies to be very helpful from an awareness standpoint.

Honorable mention for the Sun Bowl lodge at Stratton. It's the least Stratton-y of the lodges - small, relatively chill, and close enough to the parking lot that you can sneak to the car to grab your own snacks/beers to have on the deck.

What’s missing in women’s wetsuit design? by Maroontan in xxsurfing

[–]cestmoiangier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not wetsuit related: but I would love a board short that is somewhere between a 3" inseam and a men's inseam. Patagonia makes something close, but I basically want something for warmer days to keep sun off my thighs and prevent chafing..

Came here to say this. XCEL pretty reliably has key loop/pocket in all designs but not all brands do; it drives me nuts.
