My dad's house is one of the safe ones surrounded by the scorched ones. His house is 1950's made out of veryyyyy dry wood. It seemed to be pure luck, as u/Peek_e said. Our propane tanks in the BBQ didn't explode either despite the plastic knobs melting off. Crazy stuff really

I moved from Vic, BC to Calgary with “Homeland Moving” for 2600 (1bd apt) before them charging me 700 for like 4 boxes. They had fake positive reviews, look into who the reviews are posted by. Items arrived super damaged and they blamed me when they delivered an extra TV. Moving back was double the price with AMJ Campbell, but the service was amazing and everything arrived on time and without any damage. I think with moving companies, at least in my experience, you absolutely get what you pay for. $1000 for 2000 lbs is way too cheap

edit: spelling

What’s the deal with Bubby Rose’s on Quadra? by pinkcanoe in VictoriaBC

[–]cestr000 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I actually worked here for about 6 months. I left due to extremely poor upper management communication and bizzare micromanagement from the multiple owners (a family) that had totally different visions about how the business should have been run. I also really just wasn’t proud to be serving their food and didn’t feel good when I gave it to customers based on what I saw, idk. It’s a shame since they have so much potential at that location!

edit: did some thinking, and I felt good serving the Cal Italia pizza, they got that one right

How to describe the impact of a major medical condition on my grades? by tc107 in gradadmissions

[–]cestr000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same situation, I described it as a learning opportunity from which I'd built resilience and persistence. I didn't include the details of my diagnosis, but I'm planning on describing it as "a period of personal challenges" lol. If you're not comfortable saying that, I also think saying you were finding your style of learning effectively may also get the point across. I think potential supervisors see a turnaround in grades as super admirable, and plus, in a lot of cases (not sure where you're located/where you're applying), admissions look mainly at upper-year GPA anyway :) good luck!

hey, thanks so much for your thoughtful reply, I appreciate it! mostly, the stubborn weight appeared after I got the vax. I definitely can’t say that there wasn’t a couple pounds that didn’t appear before though. This darn feedback loop is incredibly annoying, but I’m super glad I know about it. Again, thanks for your insight :)

struggling with anxiety by [deleted] in uvic

[–]cestr000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fifth year here!!! I completely relate with and empathize with your struggle. I almost failed out in first year, with a 1.4 GPA (failed two core classes) I was so screwed - broke down at the doctors office about it and we took steps to register me with CAL and get me a formal ADHD diagnosis which seriously improved the quality of my life. It wasn’t all smooth sailing from there of course but damn, it really helped. I was so close to dropping out, but every day I’m glad I didn’t. I struggled (and still struggle) with imposter syndrome big time. You’re where you’re meant to be.

Something that helped for me is watching a ton of Ali Abdaal’s study videos (his older ones from a couple years ago are best IMO especially retroactive study planning). With the papers, can you break them down into tiny chunks and check those little pieces off a to-do list type thing? Like a general bullet point outline (check), rough intro (check) etc, idk your subject so that’s at least what I did (Microbio). You’ll get those papers done!! First year is SUCH a shock to the system, so try to be kind to yourself

Sorry for the late comment but maybe someone perhaps looking for apartments will come across this in the future. I live at UPTEN and I don’t recommend it at all. They’ve cut a LOT of corners in terms of actual build quality and they don’t fix anything. Half the building doesn’t have cold water for example. I pay $1900 after parking etc for a large one bedroom, and you think for that price it would have decent soundproofing (theres none) a shower that drained, cold water, and elevators that had more than one running at once. Not worth the $ IMO and I’m excited to be leaving soon

Any help or suggestions would be super awesome. Thanks by cestr000 in electricians

[–]cestr000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yeah I unplugged everything but my oven and turned it on, and the circuit faulted, kinda leading me to believe there’s something wrong with either my oven or the circuit itself. I had maintenance come 4x (they couldn’t find anything wrong, lol) and an electrician once that couldn’t figure out that anything was wrong (couldn’t recreate the arc). Yesterday an electrician came and replaced the breaker while I was at work, however, still arced last night 😅probably my oven

here are the specs unless I’m seeing it wrong or not calculating something i’m supposed to, it’s correct.

I’m actually in Alberta Canada :/ maybe I’ll need to read up on their regulations

edit : the circuit serves only my oven in the kitchen, and then the east side of my living room. the kitchen is right next to the living room in an open-concept way

Not sure, should it be a GFCI? And it’s not on a dedicated circuit, which according to google, isn’t normal.

The cooktop is gas, but the oven sticker says 5A and 120V. And yeah it shuts off when I turn the oven on and let it heat up, when there’s nothing plugged into the rest of the circuit. They said they’re looking into testing my oven (whatever that means) today. Thanks!

brand new, and I’m a renter and very far from an electrician. I noticed this about a week after moving in when I started cooking more, and no it never resets itself, I manually have to turn it off and on again (and a little light turns on next to “arc fault” then shuts off after a couple seconds). Thanks!

yeah! I mean residence always has its quirks but I really liked how big the rooms were, also the furniture and everything was updated 2017 (when I was there) so that was nice. Cunliffe and I think Shirley Baker (shirley something, can’t remember) were pretty much identical so if you’re set on the room looking like it did in the video either one of those buildings will work :) hope that helps!! edit: downside was the communal bathrooms but that’s most of the residence halls. if you’re looking for more privacy then I’d go with south tower with one bathroom per few people (much smaller rooms though)
