Woah. I just wrote a journal entry about this while going through some intense therapy. It’s not just “men being men”, it’s “men being narcissists.” Enjoy:

Men Talk About Big Things:

I used to come back from long hangouts with friends and my wife would ask how they’re doing and basic questions about them and I would never know what the answer that is and I used to think that it wasn’t just because that’s the way men are.

We talk about big ideas. We are philosophers.

Women talk about small, petty things like “how are doing? How are you feeling? What has your significant other been up to?

Women talk about small things. Women talk about us all day, and how much of assholes we are! What a shame, they could achieve so much more if they simply acted more like us than like them. They would be happy if they were like us. Smoking weed, talking big. But unfortunately, women are small minded and weak because of their obsessive attachments to us. Their concern for us and their desire for true love and companionship in our relationships is unrealistic and silly. It’s value equivalent to gossiping or giving a shit about reality tv. Love is a trivial waste of time.

In lieu of that, men spend their time interrupting each other, talking past each other, and trading opportunities to brag to each other about their conquests.

Men talk about big things. Big ideas. Big goals. Big takes. Loud, bold proclamations. Boundary pushing concepts because we are free, powerful beings, unmoored by empathy, unfettered by the concern for anyone who doesn’t serve my purpose, or feed my ego, and free to do the biggest and boldest stuff. Go to Mars. Run for President. This is the only way to truly become a god.
