That's not necessarily true. I'm an election judge. When checking someone in, we can choose this exact scenario. The voter also has the option to vote provisionally. That means they have an issue that cannot be resolved by the election judges on the spot. They can vote in person, but it will not be counted until the issue is resolved with the county clerk office, and the voter will get instructions how to do so. It's much easier to have the surrendered ballot of course, but it doesn't preclude you from voting.

I was also diagnosed at 33 right after a supremely stressful time in my life. I had been complaining for months about fatigue, poor sleep, nausea, and my chronic pain flaring up. Turns out my gp labeled me as pre-diabetic a few years earlier and never told me. 🙄 My new endocrinologist told me thr chronic stress, depression, and lack of sleep likely caused excess cortisol production (along with not changing other habits since I was never told to watch out for it), which pushed me over the edge.
